Not necessarily in terms of sales or companies that have gone bankrupt, but companies that used to make really good cars but now dont.

For what it is worth I have to say Toyota, in the early 90s they were making I believe it was 14 different coupes for domestic sale at one point (Soarer,Supra,Celica,Curren,Ceres,Sera,Paseo,MR2,Sprinter, Trueno and convertible versions of some of those and im sure there are more I cant think of)and went through three different dealers and then sporty versions of other cars such as the chaser aristo and starlet turbo and similar cars to that.

Of course the issue is that trends changed from saloons and coupes to 4x4s hatchbacks and MPVs.

Even in the UK, the show room had the MR2, Celica GT-4 and Supra for sale at the same time, now the sportiest model in the range is the Auris SR. Stupid name, why not call it a Corolla like everyone else does. And its 180ish bhp, and its a derv.

Lancia gone from creating some classics like the statos, delta intergrale and the 037 to a bunch of rebodied fiat town cars.

Think the Toyota CEO said pretty much the same thing and wanted to go back to that era. Until all the safety recalls, now I think he has other problems to sort out!

There's an element of truth in there. Rover used to make some great cars in the same segment as Jag etc, then BL happened and we all know what those days bought us. Don't forget they took took MG down with them too.

But their cars were great just before they went bust, especially the 75 v8 and I think the last 25s and 45s were fantastic looking and drove really well for the age of them.

The problem with Rover was management and wasting money and not releasing new models, not the cars. Reliability issues or more importantly the reputation for being unreliable was the final nail in the coffin in my opinion.

Toyota. Agreed with the OP. Apart from the reliability issues experienced with my last Toyota and the frankly poor attitude to issues by the dealership, there is not a single car in the range I would now want to own.

Or, Lancia gone from creating some classics like the Aurelia to a bunch of rebodied Fiats like the Delta.

From an engineering point of view, I agree with Mr Dave.

+1

From the greats of the 205GTI, 306GTI-6 and the like to todays shocking line up including the 1007 and the 5008 and all other associated tripe. Where did it all go wrong?

Another vote for Peugeot - you just wouldn't take the time to look round the showroom if you were stranded on an industrial estate with 4 hours to fill.

yes Me too. The 75 was a genuinely good car, although obviously it was starting to get a bit dated by its death and it was astonishing what the MG chassis engineers managed to do with the 45 and 25.
