I don't get it, why are you telling me this. I drive just as safe no matter who's on board. If anything it's more of a distraction!

They're telling you they are liable to drive erratically due to being distracted by their little bundle of joy.

Of course, some say it's to inform emergency services in a crash that they should be looking for a baby that might get missed in the chaos. Seems to be more of a "look at me" statement to me.

They are telling you because they are so over the moon about having a new baby that they will take every opportunity to tell the world.

Well you might mock these but they really do save lives.

I was going to crash into the back of a car the other day and would have killed everyone aboard my car and their's and at the last second saw the baby on board sign. No way I'd have avoided the crash if I hadn't seen that.

The emergency services would never spot the child seat and, of course they remover the sticker every time they go out without the child.

I prefer a "Herod on board" sign instead. I can't take the credit for it. But am tempted to copy it.

Strange isn't it. Do they think that we are just deciding whether to ram into them or not but when we see a "baby on board" sign, we decide not to ram into them and go off to find another vehicle to crash into which doesn't have children in it...

But as a poster above has noted, they are in effect advising you that they are s**e drivers who will pay very little attention to the road as they are too busy turning round and shouting at Chantelle and Mercedes to be quiet.......

thumbup
Just like when you get a Iphone and you like to let it be known to others in the pub.

Similar to telling everyone via your facebook status although you are hitting a bigger audience by having it on your car.

Ours are on the side windows of SWMBO's people carrier.

They're there to;

a) Alert emergency services should the worst happen.

and

b) Warn people in car parks that there're children involved so they may want to park elsewhere. Even with the best will in the world, accidents/dinks do happen when large doors and children/high winds are involved. (For the record, I did dint someone's car once when the door blew open, but I admitted to it and paid for the car to be repaired. Not cheap, but I have a clean conscience.)

They're NOT there to encourage you to drive slower/further away/safer or as a warning regarding my level of skill as a motorist. I'm quite capable thank you and if you're driving like a nob, I'll keep away from you whether I have children on board or not.

They are telling you that they are a scensoredt driver who can't fathom even the simplest of road etiquette and as such should be given the widest fcensoredg berth possible! Ccensoreds!! mad

Also applies to Mickey Mouse heads on aerials, 'princess on board', 'keep your distance', caravan membership stickers, any bumper sticker complete with its jolly little ditty etc etc.

Obviously, you want to do everything you can to protect the little 'un should the worst happen, but there is no way that the emergency services will have there carefully practised search and rescue strategies influenced by these signs.

Do you remove them when the kids aren't on board?

Do you take it down when the nipper isn't on board? If yes, you're part of a very select group as I regularly see cars driving by with the sign but no child/baby seat. Think of the emotional trauma they would cause in emergency services bystanders when they can't find the baby!!!!

Indeed, it's not like they will look in the rear window and go, well, there are three small bodies in there BUT I don't see a baby on board sticker so they must just be dummies/dolls..

Plus, if there are child on board stickers BUT you don't take any children with you on that trip but crash...............

Take them out when the kids are not in the car? Save some member of the public risking themselves trying to find a child that doesn't exist?

Most owners of those badges do not. Which makes them just useless tat people like to stick in the windows. Although the carpark argument has some weight.
