I was in London last week and noticed a lot of Arabic Plates on the nice cars. In some areas almost every Porsche, Lambo or Ferrari has a set.

I have seen these before but it appears to be a LOT more than usual.

Whats the story ? I am guessing you are immune to Speed Cameras, parking tickets, bus lane cameras, with a set of these on.

Also how would a witness to an accident note your "number" as they are Arabic script and most people cannot read arabic numbers.

In the seventies I worked with a guy who had been working in Libya and brought his Saab back with him complete with Libyan plates. When the plates expired and no one said anything he kept using the car. When eventually he was stopped and advised to wholeheartedly join the British number plates and road tax system, he asked what had given it away. The copper said he had just come back from working in Libya himself and could see they were out of date.

I saw a Mustang recently still on US plates. Not normally a problem as I think you get up to a year before transferring to UK plates, but the registration sticker on the plate was from 2003!.

Summer means there is always a huge increase in London - I'm in Dubai and the traffic significantly drops as many escape the +45C temperatures.

Arabs being Arabs, they hate to compromise, have something that someone else might have used (hire car), add in the bling factor which all new money loves and they'll think nothing of shipping over a few of their own cars just for a few months - they'll then have them shipped to Spain and, more than likely, Paris during the summer as well.

You'll see even more at the end of August when they'll all escape Ramadan - can't be doing an of that thinking about the poor and needy bks.

Btw - pure Arabic script will be Saudi plates - I believe all the other Arab countries have both normal and Arabic.
