I have an old air compressor that I was going to weigh in. When I realized how old it was, I wondered if it was collectable and anybody would want it?

What do you think folks?

Someone is bound to want it, the first group that comes to mind is the sort you see at classic car shows.

The sort of blokes who wit at the sides demonstrating old water pumps, engines etc

Where you may find them though? I haven't a clue

Definitely collectable. What make is it?

The problem with anything with a pressure vessel (unless it's just a compressor pump to an air line?) is that it could have corroded on the inside and you would never know. The guys (stationary engine type people) like their kit to work, hence the water pumps and the rows of light bulbs etc. Infact, some shows will kick the exhibitors off site if the engines are not working for more than half an hour in the show's opening hours (Great Dorset have this policy as stationary engines are seen as a free ticket to the show.) Is it working? Does it need work doing to it? How big is it? Have you got a pic of it? I know of a couple of people who might be interested. smile

^this

It should be easily inspected with a boroscope and then it would be very usable, in a garage or as an exhibit!

Been busy today. Have taken some pictures and will try and get then on later.

It really is in a st state, and because I've just got a new one I was going to bin it. I wouldn't want to sell or give it away as working, because I can't say how safe it is.

I have beeen using it for about 30 years.

If it's a big compressor (not a useless hobby one) then on ebay in almost any condition it should achieve up to £100. I know this as I was looking to replace my old compressor with another old one (father took his compressor back hehe) as the quality is unmatched.

However an old tired compressor needing work cost as much as a brand new one from China so I went China this time for a couple of years of hard use then throw it away, difference is a good quality old one will last forever.

It would be criminal to wizz that on the tip.

Needs to be rebuilt and it will probably be good for another 60 years.

A few more details.

The belt is loose because I've unbolted the motor to take it to pieces.

I've taken the presure switch off, but you can have it if you want.

The motor isn't the one that came with it, it is off a petrol pump of about the same vintage, but is a bit under powered.

As I've said, I have been using it for about 30 years, but I've bought a new one.

It's bloody heavy.

I want it out of the way.

I'm in Burton on Trent.

Would it fit in the back of an estate car?. 240V?

I'm interested for my own use. Would a slab of beer cover it?

Don't worry about voltage, the motor is a bit weak so replace with a washing machine motor!
