Car insurance annual mileage
Discussion
As honest as I can be.
Say your car is MOT'd with 49k on the clock in March. You just renewed your policy in January, telling the insurance company you do 10k a year. You have a bump in December with 60k on the clock.
Will your insurance pay out.....?

but that's my question. do they actually check MoTs in event of accidents to substantiate mileage?Say your car is MOT'd with 49k on the clock in March. You just renewed your policy in January, telling the insurance company you do 10k a year. You have a bump in December with 60k on the clock.

They can try saying things like that but it will never work as you can always say that you lent xxxx the car and it was insured through his/her driving other cars entitlement
ETA. It was never mentioned when i had a guy reverse into me last year, i put down 8k or so p.a and had done approx 25k that year until that point.

Whos says someone else doesnt drive the car on their insurance?
On what basis TPO? Why would they do that as a frequent user to boost the mileage so much? They can't insure the car in their own name outright, as it isn't owned & registered in their name and in any case, insurance would be far more econmical to add then as a named driver to the main policy.Whether you think you're being clever or not lying serves no purpose and there's hundreds of ideas you can mention and I'll be able to give you multiple examples of declined claims for exactly that scam.
I currently always declare accurate mileage and wonder why. many friends and colleagues don't, and always exceed mileage allowance despite declaring every modification.
as an aside, my DC2 has limited mileage to 5k pa which I signed a declaration for. This I believe is important to keep to 5k.

They'll always try to weasel their way out of it, it hardly makes a difference to the premium anyway even at my age (20). Might as well tell the truth, otherwise there's no point paying for it whatsoever.
Honesty is the best way in the long run, lies may seem the best alternative in the short term. But whos to say that the car isn't driven by someone else covered by their insurance as third party
Or indeed whos to say it hasn't been driven on track
Aslong as it hasn't been abused then I don't think it would matter, from 8k to 25k in an earlier post, they would get out of that one, but a 1000miles on track is easily doable

ive never been asked how many miles currently on the car by the ins co's
Write it off thenand se what happens. Quick check on MOTs, a glance at the service book etc. Very easy to prove you were understating your mileage. A few thouand late on in the policy year doesn't matter, 5000+ does though. As for wriggling out, they'd probably ask for an additional premium before considering any claim rather than declining outright. Unless you choose to be an arse then they'll decline it on principle.

Around 4 years ago i used to have my own car insurance and did approx 5k per year, this is the mileage i stated on my policy. However my parents own a car dealership and often used my car to run around in, collect cars etc on there trade insurance and usually put on approx 3k miles a year. So if i had crashed and they checked my mot mileages what would happen?
I have never supplied a mileage to my insurers who said they would assess it from MOTs which obviously don't coincide with renewals. Now on my Mustang, I had a 4000 mile policy and the policy I got said 6000 which when I queried it was "what I could go up to" so what I did was reduced it to 4000 max and lowered the premium a bit. I imagine if you claimed someone else had driven it, they'd want proof of it given they would only be insured 3rd party.
One "loophole" I found was that I had an old Mondeo on 4000 a year which I scrapped on the government scheme thereby erasing all trace of the old girl. I then bought another car, changed the car and it seems had 4000 miles to use up!
