Mechanical Help
Discussion
Morning,
Have an issue with the daily runner Clio that i just wanted to run by PH to see if anyone can shed any light on the situation..
When selecting reverse (pull up and push over to the left) the gear lever feels as though it is hitting something, making selecting reverse near impossible.
Now it was fine before the car went in for an MOT last week, the garage replaced the steering rack gator but now the car seems to have developed this issue - i'm not sure if the two are related as i am fairly crap when it comes down to the mechanics side of things..!
Just a little pissed off as the car was running great until this!
Any help would be appreciated, i was going to run the car back to the garage and get them to sort but wanted to know if the job above is linked in any way before ranting at the garage.. !
Cheers
Mike

Have a look around the selector mechanism on the gearbox, i got worried sick once that I had broken something major after a small service on my alfa resulted in me not being able to select any gears. Turns out I had dropped small spanner into the engine bay which had fallen in such a way that it jammed under the gear selector.

It certainly could be related.
The steering rack site on the bulkhead just above where the gear linkages protrude into the engine bay from the "tunnel" It's possible the mechanic has disturbed one, or moved something like a bit of wiring loom, that's now getting caught when you push the selectors towards reverse. Seen it happen before
Take it back, it's probably (hopefully) a 5 min job to sort.
Nice one.. i'll drop it over to them later in the week and see if they can sort. The steering rack site on the bulkhead just above where the gear linkages protrude into the engine bay from the "tunnel" It's possible the mechanic has disturbed one, or moved something like a bit of wiring loom, that's now getting caught when you push the selectors towards reverse. Cheers for the help guys.

Is it possible the gear selector rod is hitting the exhaust? I'm sure I've seen this on the early clio's, usually because the front pipe gasket and/or springs have worn and the exhaust shifts across from where it should usually sit!
Had a look under the car last night and that is it!! Just had a new exhaust put on the car a week or so prior and it looks as if the flange joining the cat and middle section is pushing against the exhaust.
Taking it back to the guys who fitted the exhaust so they can tweak it - hopefully curing the problem.
Thanks for the help
