Buying a car with p/plate transfer off, and mine on?

Hi All,
A bit of a quagmire.
Looking at a car this weekend, and the guys selling it (dealership, 2nd hand), want to remove the number plate on the car at the minute, so it will revert to the standard plate.
At the same time, I want remove my p/plate off my current car, and place it onto the new car.
Just spoke to the DVLA who were not very helpful (mentioned V371 and V62 again and again).
Any ideas on what to do?
What log book do I sign the car sale off on to?

Take all the paperwork to the DVLA local office, with the trader, and they'll sort everything out for you - it's what I did when I sold my previous M3 and wanted my private plate off and the purchaser wanted their private plate on.
It was a few forms - you could do it off-site but more headache.
