To keep it simple, my dad took his car to a garage to get his brake pads changed today (I would have done it myself but I havn't got a special tool for the rear brakes). 6 Hours later and they ring back and say that they can't find the locking wheel nut key.

My dad is 100% sure the wheel nut key was with the jack etc in the boot under the carpet because he took the wheel off on saturday to check the brake pads, so he is convinced the garage have lost it.

So now, without the wheel nut key and unable to get the wheels off, question is what the fook do we do now ? confused

Drill it out?

Or if it was a manufacturers locking wheel nut set, give them a call and see if they can help.

What car? If its relativley new the stealers will be able to get it off.

If its not relativley new the garage will be able to rip it off with a old socket and a hammer

My manufacturer key broke recently. Garage gave me the option, use a tool they have to break off the locking nut and replace with a standard bolt for free (I already had spare bolts) at risk of damaging the alloy or order a new one from Vauxhall cost ~ £20 and wait a week. I waited the week and have a new one now. Car is 10 years old so quite impressed tha vauxhall still stock the key.

Or maybe they only have 2 or 3 keys and still use it on current models.....

We should add this to the rip-off MOT garage thread.

tyre places can buys special socket that effectively has spiral 'teeth' on the inside. as they hit a impact driver with it on it cuts into teh metal locking nut till it undoes it.

They needed to use it on my old Volvo when the 'key' bit fell to pieces. TBH I now make a point of removing locking nuts as I only have basic OEM wheels and non fancy tyres on so chances of anyone pulling them is slim.
