Right guys and girls i want to rack your brains. I'm 17, i've got a Volkswagen Caddy 1.6. The cheapest insurance quote i've got is £1260.59 per year. But this is with me as an "occassional" user with my mum as the main driver. And transferring her 5 years no claims from her beloved Golf GTI to my Caddy. Which she is VERY reluctant to do. On my own the cheapest i can find is around £3000 which i cannot afford. I would really like to have my own policy and build up my own NCB. So it looks like the Caddy might have to be sold. Any idea what is affordably insurable for a 17 year old in not the best of areas??? I NEED HELP! Oh and i'd like to be Fully comp. Please someone must have some idea...

First step is to look through insurance group ratings for a car in the lowest possible insurance group. Decide which of the horrible cars is least offensive and get a quote for that.

What about a 1.0 Polo (6N2 shape)? Ins group 2
