..the MX5 is currently off road, but bearing in mind that it will need to be insured at some point to stop me losing the NCB I got a quote tonight to see what the state of play is.

(25 year old male. Car kept in a garage in a safe postcode. Solicitor. 3 years NCB. Comprehensive cover with an excess of around 300 quid, car worth about 2 grand give or take, social only, no more than 5000 miles/yr)

Bear in mind in 2008 I paid £350.00 with a £150.00 excess, the best quote now is £400.00 with a £350.00 excess.

Funny old game insurance.

Yep.....Some pretty hefty increases on private motor at the moment. Claims inflation seems to be the main excuse.

Have you tried going classic?

My MX5 is with Haggerty. I have to have a daily driver though. (but even that went North of £300 for a 3000 mile policy, but mine is on the drive)

Yep, my renewal quote has just went up £9.00 per month for no reason. Was still better than the other quotes i got, think the bad winter weather caused more claims so premiums have gone up across the board. It sucks but its got to be done.

Motor insurance hasn't made a profit for a long time. This sort of thing gives you an idea why;
