...and Vauxhalls in general? I learnt to drive in a corsa about 11 years ago and couldn't think of anything more boring to look out.
Every 17 year old has them, and to me shows no imagination whatsoever. Hell a peugeot 205 would be miles more interesting!

The Corsa actually works for me rather well cos I fit in it which is unusual because in most small cars I feel about 40 feet tall! Parts are also ten-a-penny and you can blend in rather well which IMO is what you need nowadays, those 'P' stickers just seem to make things worse for the poor sods who I've seen being tailgated by cars with 4 rings and much imagine...

Insurance = limited mostly to mainstream boring crap.

Wouldn't totally agree though, maybe it's just where you live? A lot of my friends have had interesting first and second cars, as have I.

I had a Toyota Levin, one of my friends had a Quantum, another had Triumph.

Corsa's and the like have small engines, low insurance groups and are easy to find, that's why there's loads around.

Plus not everyone wants a decent car as their first, 'cos they don't wanna risk bumping it.

The pressure from parents? I wanted a 145 Twin Spark for my first car, but that was never going to be on the cards with the parents hanging around. I ended up with an Ibiza, which was different enough, but I was never going to be allowed anything interesting. If its old, they think it'll break down, if its interesting, the insurance is too high. It's a no win situation unfortunately.

Completely in agreement with you though Dave, there are far better cars out there than a Corsa for the money, even on a new driver's budget.

Because they are mostly imagination-less tts who just want to pile on tons and tons of crap?

That or they are all thick as they think it will be cheap insurance when it obviously won't.

But then again I'd rather they badly modify and crash mundane piles of crap than classics (which are cheap to insure)

Don't forget most people don't actually have any interest in cars either, and probably just buy what everyone else has.

Original Mini FTW. It's what I did, not before wasting a load of money on a Citroen AX though...

Thing is aren't Corsa's meant to be expensive to insure as they're so popular? Crazy!!
They think they look so cool and you just cringe seeing them flooring their chav chariot.
I know we were all young once but nevertheless in this day & age with the internet and stuff there is no excuse for poor and unimaginative taste!

Unmodified they're not too bad (cheaper than quite a few cars I looked at). And in a 1.2 you can't not floor it, without AC my car weighs 979kg and when the engine's cold or below about 2500rpm mashing it into the felt is about the only option!

I'm paying < 2K fully comp'd at the moment, one guy I know is paying > 2K on a Pug 106 with different alloys and a pair of orange stripes!

Had a 1.3i 1995 mini sprite as my first car, was quicker than most of my mates fist car and able to be chucked around any corner with ease.

Learnt a lot about mechanics as it was easy to work on (ie no lap top needed) plus I got into car shows free on the mini stand smile

17 year olds are limited to a handfull of cars becausue of insurance.

1.2 corsa
pugeot 306 or 106 cant remember which and dont care cause french are stupid
pugeot 206
mg zr
fiat punto

all with 16inch wheels, and the loudest backbox imaginable and rediculous sub and speaker combinations.

occaisionally one kid will splash out on a 1.6 something and it will be RAAAPPPID! and will be envied by all his friends, imagine if these 17 year olds though about the fact there cars would be beaten my a middle aged woman in her ford mondeo or citreon piccasso.

when i was learning to drive, i didn't know about cars. if my dad said, the mk4 ford escort popular 1.3 cvh was the proverbial dogs danglers, it sure was. i used to look so rad with diesel van suspension and sierra pepperpots

i'm so, so glad there were never any pictures taken...

had i have cared about cars before i could drive i prob would have bought a car myself, but then, before you can drive it's just a licence, you never actually lust for a drive layout, specific engine etc.

I started with a Mk2 1.1 Fiesta, then had a Spitfire Mk4 1.3, then a Rover 214si. Insurance is the primary factor in all car choices.

Coming from someone with a Mini for fksake. I like my Corsa alot. It has a few toys on it, it handles quite well, it looks nice, it was cheap to insure, gives me good MPG. How is a Mini interesting in the bloody slightest?
