decent piece on the TV news about the cameras being removed in Swindon. No increase in accidents as a result. Usual spin Doctor from Plymouth area saying as the funding has been cut we will count the cost in deaths. Nothing to do with some of them being given redundancy notices. Never happy seeing people out of work but I will make an exception with all of these who have systematically raped the motorist in the name of safety, when in fact it was all about the money.

As usual last word to brake, who didn't have a propergander machine being interviewed, saying were are all going to die as a result.

Maybe now if they concentrtae on training and how to actually improve things with engineering, signage and how about the most important, education in schools and upwards they may well do some good.

"So officer, do sped cameras work"?
"In My opinion yes,
Wherever a camera is place, speed decreases, and the accident rate fals"

Wow that's genius that, perhaps best we look at your job ad see if a CSO could manage your role better and cheaper then

Saw that....time for them all to go.... Speed doesn't kill....lack of concentration does.......

Mainly caused by Poor road infrastructure which causes congestion, Mobile phones and in car distractions......

In the olden days of the mid 70's when I started behind the wheel you could drive without traffic queues this way and do 130 mph easy up the A1...we didn't have mobiles and you couldn't hear the radio etc....

Just another example of the BBC bias which is beyond contempt.

As above, time will tell. When there is no huge increase in deaths then what will they do? (first guess is fiddle the figures)

Yea those were the days when cars didn't absorb any energy and your head would explode in a 20mph crash unless you were impaled by the steering wheel or footwell.

Were we watching the same broadcast? I thought it was pretty balanced!

some of the worst accidents I've seen have been next to speed cameras. People see them too late, assume they're speeding and pretty much pull an emergency stop. Cue carnage behind.

I thought the piece I saw was OK, the chap from Swindon mentioned regression to the mean, he had his head screwed on, strange for a Councillor.

Maybe austerity is a way to force people to be a bit more sensible . . . worked during the war . . .

im just trying to understand something..

the government is here to serve us.. the tax paying public.

since speed cameras appeared in 1990... we have all shouted NO! at the top of our voices, by every medium available to us..

and yet its taken 20 fracking years for them to start to listen?! wtf!

and another point.. swindon switches off its cameras.. no accident increases...

doesn't this mean they weren't put in accident black spots, which it wah they were all originally for?

It's a brave man who uses that to try and get off a speeding fine, but I do like the logic.

I think this new Government should employ a 'Minister for the Bloomin Obvious' and we could then do away with many of the current 'Minister/s for the Incredibly Patronising'.
