I am due to go on holiday towards the end of August with my wife, my brother and his other half. The've got a house in South West France organised. Now being in to cars, I obviously opted to drive down in my Cooper S, whilst my brother and his partner are flying. All tickets booked.

Now here's the thing. He's just gone and bought a 3 year old Range Rover Vogue 4.2 Supercharged (great value now by the way) and has asked me to drive that down instead so we can have a proper 4 seater for when we are there...i know i know, terrible thing to be asked... : P

So my question is about fuel. The journey is roughly 650 miles door to door and the RR is going to be a great motor for the job, but is it going to be horrendous on juice? Does anyone have any idea about the sort of range I could expect at motorway speed? I'm guessing it'll be a couple of tanks each way?

I'm obviously going to do it whatever, but would be nice to know how much damage my wallet is going to take.

I'd hazard a guess it'll cost you about £350-400 for both there and back. Maybe a little more if you've got a heavy right foot.

I think you'll probably get there on just under 2 tanks smile

81 litre tank so i would guess 4 tanks round trip but budget for 5 and you should be ok.

If you brim it (just over £100) you'll get around 400 miles on a tank at moderate speeds, maybe more if you're wearing lightweight shoes. Start getting excitable and it's anyone's guess...! biggrin

Thanks for the input people...

Yep, I'm looking forward to the drive, so not too fussed about the difference. I'm going to have to press on a bit - I'm doing the drive in one day - but to be honest, I don't really see an RR as a monster speeds GT type weapon - am I underestimating it?

What my bro will probably want to do is do the driving while we are there (fine by me, means I can sample some of the brilliant local red), So I'm thinking, If I deliver it to him almost empty, I'll have at least half a tank to go back with wink also, I doub't I'll be picking it up empty!

It's acceleration that kills fuel consumption, not top speed,
which is precisely why around town is always more expensive
than out on the open road.

Suggest accelerate gently to a high top speed.

French plod (in 130 kph areas in the dry) don't really in practice
start ticketing until 160 kph. Suggest keep E100-E200 in cash on you
at all times.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to say they got done for 131 kph,
such is the nature of PH.

Has the chariot in question got cruise control ? Handy in a situation like this.
Set it on 159.5 kph, pop a CD in, sit back and relax.

I would imagine it would have CC. Apparently the stereo is spot on. It's also got tellys in the back of the headrests. No doubt the Mrs will be bringing her Sex and the City box set. I'm hoping you can work the stereo separately
