A TVR, Ferry Ticket, a Tankful of Gas and a Blonde...
Discussion
I've just bagged a pair of ferry tickets on t'internet for tomorrow morning
So, I arrive in Calais around 8.30 am and need to back at 10pm. Rest of the day is unplanned, and I don't know france at all.
Normally I'd just wander and enjoy exploring but I literally have one day, so I'm looking for some suggestions / recommendations for a nice interesting day out.
Somewhere great for brekky within 20 mins of calais would be good, some nice roads heading to a decent place for lunch, maybe a seaside town / village.
Somewhere interesting to mooch in the afternoon and then a place en route to have dinner on the way back to le boat
Can any of you francophiles gimme some help?

Le Touquet is about an hour down the autoroute from Calais is meant to be agreeable.
Take the D940 out of Calais and down past Cap Gris-Nez and Blanc-Nez, stop off to see the war memorials and old bunkers. Carry on down D94, the old road rally stage from Pas-de-Calais Rally. Absolutely fantastic road, open up the TVR's taps and scare some Belgian caravan tuggers. Through Boulogne, either stop off in the old town (miss out the new town but go up the hill to the old walled part), wander round there then down to Le Touquet.
Don't expect all that much to be open though, Frenchies like their Sundays off. Enjoy

+1Try Montreuil Sur Mer - http://www.informationfrance.com/montreuil-sur-mer...
It's not on the sea anymore, hasn't been for centuries, but it's an amazing town with some incredible ramparts dropping scores of feet down to what I guess WAS where the sea was once.
Easy toodle back to Le Touquet and Calais too.

Just enough time to get to Mont Blanc tunnel for 12km of tunnel run and back.... Came through it 6 hours ago on way back from Maranello with CLS and Ferrari Cali. Nice noise.
However... Unless you reckon you can get away with av 110mph without getting done by Gendarmes (they were out with Le Gatso today) then maybe staying closer to Channel is best!

Spent a week in Brugge in may lovely place hugely expensive talk about £2k++ for 6 nights great beer great food.
If you go there go on the canal trip best value for money and very good. Forget the bell tower waste of time. Zott beer factory tour excellent.
Make sure you go to resteraunt Cambrinous 400beers on site and great food.
Also go to eapps the ww1 memorial graves very moving even for a bruiser like myself & read the head stones. Knew it would be dificult when we planned a half day going round a few of the memorials but wait until you get there well worth it

How about a picnic bottle of champers and visit the d day beaches.

She'll LOVE that... No actually, she'll REALLY LOVE that!

Also, it's about 250 miles from Calais.
Got on the Ferry, bought a map.
Went upstairs into the brasserie and had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon thank you very much.
Nice wander along deck.
First off the ferry and gun it for Brugge! Feckin Midgets
Bell Tower, Salvador Dali Museum and a cheeky Leffe. Also caught the start of a historic car rally, so got a bit of Bentley and Packard straight eight porn for free
Collected the car, gunned it for Ypres.
In the wrong direction...
Looked at the map... yep, I'd bought one for France but we were in Belgium!
Stopped to buy a map at a petrol station. Discovered we were in the Netherlands! D'oh!
Eventually find Ypres, and immediately see the Menin Gate. Drove underneath it and parked up. Spent about an hour checking it out and went for a walk along the ramparts. Got really choked up...
Especially when we dropped into a militaria shop up the road and they had a load of kit and weapons that had been recovered from the ground
Had an AMAZING lunch in a cafe just off the square. Man these guys know how to do a steak frite!
Bought about 10 kilos of belgian truffles and set off for home... VIA...
Dunkirk!
Got caught out in a downpour of biblical proportions, sans roof
Bit of right foot nearly succeeded in keeping us dry! I knew I had to succumb once my companion had all but mounted the dashboard trying to stay out of the rain!
Dunkirk really is a monstrous s
tehole!
Still, it was another thing to see and I fancied an ice cream!
Somewhere along the way we stopped at a war cemetery... the scale just blew me away. You literally cannot see the end of the memorials. Just thousands of white headstones as far as the eye can see. I thought it would be difficult walking around without getting upset, but everything has been kept so immaculate and respectfully that I just left feeling good that the lads were being looked after so well.
It was completely open and unattended at 8pm on a sunday... It's sad to say but I can't imagine that being possible in the UK these days without a single coke can or graffiti
Blasted back to the ferry with 3 minutes to spare
I'd do it again tomorrow, except I have to work! Bah!
