New member, new car suggestions for £25000 please!
Discussion
Hello
I am a long time reader of this site but I've not posted here before (so be gentle please!)I would like to buy a new car soon and I wondered what piston heads people think.
I will have around £25000 to spend (including trade in). My current car is a 2001 BMW 330ci which I have enjoyed for many years but it's time for a change!
I would like something reliable as it will be my only car. There's only me and my wife so two seaters are OK but the wife likes shopping so a boot would be nice!! I only do about 6000 miles a year so fuel consumption isn't a worry. I'm coming up to my 40th birthday so insurance shouldn't be a barrier (and I'm too old for Imprezas etc!)
Thanks a lot for reading

hi billy, welcome to ph! Nice problem to have! If you like your bmw's then you wont be dissapointed with a Z4, in both flavours. I loved mine, i went to a 3 coupe after and i prefer the Z. Also consider a boxster or the cayman. Maybe a 370z? Or how about a big sporty Xj? The wife will approve of a jaaaaaag
Hello and welcome to PH.
May I suggest: -

For your budget you'd be able to get one with all the fancy suspension work done (still has a live axle but that is no hindrance, trust me
), a blower already installed with change to spare. You can get them in manual or an auto, they sound great, go like hell and handle pretty nicely (despite what people say about them). And I know it isn't an issue but a V8 auto will return 30mpg on a run (yes really) and it does about 20mpg day to day for me. Servicing is peanuts, tax is £205 per year. They are solid reliable cars (providing the SVA/IVA wiring conversion was done by a reputable firm) and a breeze to live with day to day and no LHD is not a problem at all the boot is pretty decent too.
edit: to fix the picture link.

If you don't mind living with LHD, one of the corvette variants might do you nicely. With that budget you could get yourself a C6 with maybe even the 430hp LS3 lump or a mint example of the C5Z06 with the 405hp LS6.
They are a very easy car to live with, with cheap servicing, bullet proof reliability and good performance. They are a bit lacking in interior quality but it's comfortable and does the job.

I've just got back from being taken out in a friends new (to him) 996 C4S, and it is lovely. Looks a good way to spend £25,000 to me. Something like this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1878627.htm . Take the splitter off, and replace the cassette storage, with CD at least.
£25,000 you say? For that, my money would probably be this:

In 5 years time, you could probably sell it for the ammount you paid. Unlike the others suggested - In 5 years time, I'll probably be seeing every one else's choice (maybe not the Mustang or the TVR) in the Auto Trader's 'Bargain Cars for under a grand'
Well, maybe not in the bargain cars section, but you get the point
