Is reversing for too long bad for the car ?
Discussion
May be a daft question. Have a space in an underground car park. When I reverse from the door into the space (approx 50 yds up a slight incline), the smells like burning. However, if I drive in forward there isn't the same smell. However, driving in forward makes it harder to negotiate the actual parking space.
Any thoughts.

They once did a stupid test on '5th gear' to see if reversing was bad for a car - driving round a circuit as fast and violently as possible backwards.
Only problem was the cooling system couldn't get enough cold air and thus recked the engine. But at slow speeds the fan should be able to deal with it unless the car isn't suitable for remaining stationary in traffic for a long time.

Here is the 5th gear video
Silly prates thought reversing was bad the the gear box.
ETA: VBH irritates me. As does 5th gear.
