for some reason our cash strapped local council have had the gritters out chucking grit round dudley town centre tonight.
are they expecting a siberian snowstorm or something?

I spotted one on the motorway near you today...

Maybe they don't believe the Met Office any more...

It helps to stop the bitumen melting in hot weather, allegedly smile

but its been raining all day.

Might be to remove bitumen on newly laid SMA surfacing to gain some early life skid resistance.
Very common in France & Germany.
