Morning all I'm after some advice about what's the best fun DERV for £10K.

I fancy something that can soak up the miles, tow my race car and be fun on a B road..............

So far I've thought of the Seat Leon FR, BMW 330d touring, Skoda Fabia or Octavia VRS and Volvo V50 but any other suggestions and potential issues with any of those cars would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt smile

Got to be a vRS. The FR will fall apart, the 330d will bore the tits off you, and the V50 has rubbish engines unless you go for the D5 which is a heavy, thirsty brute.

You can have my 55 plate passat sport TDI for £6500 and spend £3500 on a mx5/caterham rep/etc!

How many miles are you going to do? Diesel may end up being a false economy. Especially if it goes wrong.

And he also said spend the change on an mx5/caterham...

Passat looks about as much fun as the others listed IMO...

Oops, missed the towing part.
..now - i actually think that would be brilliant if it has sufficient towing capacity..!

No, YOU said spend the change. The OP's post mentioned nothing about spending change on anything. He said £10k for a fun diesel to tow with.

new shape lancer diesel - has way more grip than a FWD should have ;-) responds well to remaps too having a VAG lump

Shame about the suspension made out of scaffold poles, the rear visibility made out of a letter box, the interior made out of Yoplait packaging, and the brakes made out of 10p pieces.

I had an '08 GS3 saloon, mapped to 170hp. Went very well, but couldn't live with the thing due to the items I mentioned above.
