Hello, long time no see.

Apologies if this is a pearoast - I suspect it probably is but I see that in the year or so I've been off this site, the search function hasn't been improved at all.

Still, http://goo.gl/CHtW

An advert put out by Chrysler (fairly) recently.

The 'tagline' is hilarious... I don't think someone's ever managed to be so wrong in so few words.

Two things America got right: cars and freedom.

Seriously? I mean, really?!

I don't think anyone has actually got freedom 'right' yet and, if they have, it's certainly not the Americans! And, well, the car bit... jesus.

Irony fail? Or genuinely without irony? It's a tough one to call. It's a good job their cars are too st to sell in Britain.

To be fair to the Americans they did fight for and win their freedom from the British crown in the not too distant past. They take that very seriously, which is why patriotism is such a respected trait in their society. It is one of the things I like best about yanks. Also, they do have a bill of rights and a written constitution; documents which we are denied in the UK.

st advert though, but then Americans are generally stupid so it might go down well.

300bhp/t in 5...4...3....2...

So you're in a battle in the 1700s and suddenly you've got some - lets be polite - 21st century technology, what do you build with it? A car. Great thinking there.

FWIW I thought it was quite well produced for a viral.

Lets take a moment to consider some of the greatest cars A-merica has produced. There's the AC Cobra of Thames Ditton, the Ford GT40 of Brentwood (with a little Hethel and Huntingdon thrown in) and the Saleen S7R of Wellingborough... It seems all their best ideas come from Britain. A bit like the idea of sticking two fingers up at Westminster and going it alone, which was championed by a former British army officer named George Washington.

I dunno, I can imagine it would appeal in the same way that Clarkson taunting the Germans or French would to some over here. I'm a big fan of the childish fun way the Americans are allowed to advertise their cars over there. When was the last time you heard a revving engine or saw tyre smoke in a UK car advert?

I don't mind being made fun of, but at the very least they could have made the Brits have, I dunno, really horrendous teeth of something...

The whole advert just has the feel of not being funny, and not even intending to be.

It just feels like a really lame dig at the British based on pretty shonky foundations.

Those foundations being:

- The advert was intended to cash in on American beef with Britain because of BP, which has 40% of shares in the UK and 39% in the US.
- America has not got freedom 'right': see Guantanamo Bay for one thing
- America has not really got cars 'right'

I know rewriting history is in the Constitution, but I'd have thought that less than 75% would believe that one

The next one will show a Camaro on waterskis repelling BP execs from the Gulf of Mexico!

I reckon it would have been better as a ford mustang ad, you know, try and relate them in any way shape or form not just "ooh, we've got cars, aren't you scared"

I do like the response of the challenger 2 though hehe "checkMATE, sonny jim!"

I'd take their brand of freedom over the meddling authoritarian socialist EU police state we have here. At least they have a written constitution, separation of church from state, separate legislature and executive, both elected.

In the UK we are swapping one kind of serfdom for another, and arguing with each other about the relative merits of each.

Cars....? You might have a point.

Imagine watching this ad screened in a bar, surrounded by septics all chanting 'USA, USA!' like the empty headed dimwits they are, wearing an England shirt after your goalkeeper has thrown the ball in the back of the net for them.............

The Americans invented the automobile, I have a video of Barack Obama saying that very thing so it must be true?! I'll have a look and see if I can find it and add an edit, you couldn't make it up, and I thought we'd finally got rid of imbeciles in the White House when Bush got the boot?
