I heard on the news on radio one that come Jan there will be a £5,000 grant for anyone buying an electric car.

I myself wouldn't mind paying say £3,000 of my own cash for a brand new car to do the shopping in that I didn't need to worry about fueling etc.

The first thing I'd like to know is where is in the UK do you but electric cars and how much is the cheapest?

Would anyone else consider this since it's fairly cheap and I'd still keep both my C2 and my mk1 MR2 for what they're currently used for (almost have myself an eight car lockup, should find out soon s storage is no problem)

So you're getting £5k off the government and £3K from yourself and you're going to buy an electric car for £8k, new? I could be wrong but a) the £5k incentive has been scrapped and b) the cheapest workable electric car is likely to be in the region of £30k and would still have the range of a well thrown rock. Good luck with that!

"Electric car subsidy spared cuts by government"

"It means that anyone who buys an electric plug-in car from next year will get a 25% discount up to a maximum of £5,000."

So its £5k off a 20k+ car.

G Whizz isn't a car.

Rather be on a bike in a crash.

No, the £5k is still available, however it is for a maximum 25% of the vehicle value. So you cant buy a £6k vehicle with a £5k grant.

As for where to buy, A Nissan dealership? Online- type in electric car buy and you'll find loads of the things.

Saw a lovely blue one of those in Turnham Green on Monday evening. I rather like them although you can never hear them coming.

I believe it's a 25% grant, up to a maximum of 5k/30k purchase price.

I geussed it would be eiter a scrappage type scheme or a % of price grant, oh well, I just figred it might have been a good way to get a cheap shopping trolly and keep servicing costs down on my other cars.

Worth a try I geuss

Saw one being given the beans at Cholmondeley, a lovely metallic lime green colour. They do make a sound of sorts, a futuristic electrical whine. Needs amplifying for the benefit of pedestrians though.

Is it just cars? There are some very interesting electric motorcycles on the way that would make much more sense with 25% off.
