Does anyone else get annoyed by certain car specific number plates?

I saw a TVR at the weekend in the Cotswolds, Nxxx TVR. Nice car, good number plate in my opinion.

Then I saw two cars subsequent to that, a Ford Ka with the number plate Kxxx KA and a BMW 3 series touring with the number plate xx06 BMW. These annoyed me.

Am I irrational?

I'd say the worst offenders are the 'X5 xxx' numberplates.

Which reminds me, there was an Audi Q7 (I think) I saw the other day with the number plate "X5 BAH" which made me smirk.

I remember once seeing two Diablos (sp?) parked back to back, one of them was N666 DBL which I liked.

It seems odd to approve of a TVR plate but dislike a BMW one. Personally I find them all rather laughable but everyone's entitled to spend their money however they see fit.

The whole concept is baffling - even if the entire plate spells the make/model (and mostly they don't) it's not really telling anyone anything they didn't already know or couldn't ascertain simply by looking at the mannufacturer's badging.

None of the badges on my car actually tell you what model it is.

A few weeks ago, on an MX-5 I saw MX54 CAZ spaced to spell MX5 4 CAZ, thought that was pretty clever.

I have to admit a certain fondness for personalised plates. A lot of my friends think they're chavvy etc (and I admit some of them are), but a decent plate looks great. There's one round here, K18 KAT which looks funny, and A 8ULY was on a tow truck smile

I have a car related plate on my car and I like it. It cost less than £100 to sort out and means that the plate is no longer age related (useful as the body of the car has not changed throughout it's whole life cycle) and makes it slightly more unique in my opinion.

Each to their own though. Why does anyone spend any money changing anything on their car?

Mine's as bad - TVR plate on a VW Touareg! hehe The chap I bought the car from wanted his plate back, so I put my old TVR plate on as it would need re-retaining soon anyway.

It makes you think when you see M3 XXX on, say, a 320d...one may think they've had to downsize biggrin

I've seen E17 XGE on an Exige, and apparently there are quite a few of them.

What if it comes with the car you buy?

I must admit, I'm in two minds with my plate on the M5.
