Video: Zonda R's Record Run at the 'Ring

Watch the Pagani hammer the Ferrari 599XX on 'that' lap

A picture is worth a thousand words, or so they say. And actions speak louder than words. If those clichés are true (and they wouldn’t be clichés if they weren’t), then we shan’t keep you with excessive words – because this video must be worth a full-length novel read out at 150dB.

It’s simply the in-car footage taken a few weeks ago of the Pagani Zonda R setting a 6mins 47sec lap of the Nordschleife, but it is pretty compelling.

Whether that 'road car-derived' time is a proper record or not we’ll let you decide, but what is incontrovertible is that you are watching the Zonda R destroy the best that the monstrous Ferrari 599XX can do by a full 11 seconds. Nice.

I was there when they turned up in the car park at The 'Ring. They had TWO Zonda R's in the back of a transporter! eekcloud9 Caused quite a stir as you can imagine. The circuit was then closed early so they could go out for a few laps, I wasn't happy! biggrin

I'm not impressed tbh, the radical did a lap time similar to this, and they have a revenue of 1/200th of ferrari.

The porsche 956 did a 6:11 (in '83), we're still far from that time..

Awesome car and what a lap! He could have gone even faster still, if he hadn't screwed up his gearchange @2.48 into the lap...

I agree and with some better corner lines in certain places he could improve the time even more, but the lap is exceptional as is. Congratulations.

Fast maybe, but can it get over the speedbumps in McDonalds? I doubt it.

After watching the footage 6 times now, i think if there was a little less short shifting and on the gas a bit quicker, he could of knocked 3-4 more seconds off the record.
Fantastic to view in full screen, the car is so well balanced and set up.
Please Mr Zonda, can i have a go, pleeeeeese!

Thought I noticed that too, also he changed gear in corner once or twice. Still utterly impressed by this. I guess the car must feel like a cart sensing from the vid . . . Superb footage.

What I find funny is his need to pull the straps on his harness even tighter. Watching that it looks like he could have gone faster. I dont think I noticed him going sideways anywhere around that lap.

Makes you wonder what could have been without the odd lines and botched gearchanges. Should there be a separate Ring class for flappy-paddle cars? Manual drivers are at a big disadvantage there, you run out of hands.

That looked terrifically quick, but i reckon a 6.40sec could be on the cards, at least 3 times he was out of gear. And yes he screams like a girlie!

Blimey, that thing picks up speed like a fat chick picking up donuts at Crispy Creme!

That said if I where to drop a Million on a mildly disguised racing car I'd not want a dash that reflects so badly int he windscreen, from the camera angle you can barely see out of the front! No wonder he keep fluffing the gears, couldn't see the friggin corners ;-)

Bet he woke up the guys on the repair truck near the beginning too!

That wasn't based on a road car though was it.

I bet any of the current LMP's (Pug 908, Audi R15, etc) would probably beat the 956's time

Still the comment on the Radical stands true! All these cars are really more track orientated than road derived, albeit loosely being based on a road car. British touring cars are similar in that ethos, only they need to obide by strict regulations, Mr Pagani and Ferrari do not.

What heppened to the Ultima GTR? I thought that was going to have a shot at the ring record.

Sideways isn't fast wink . Ultra tidy lap - couple of fluffed changes - there was more to come!
