Sounds about right to be honest.. maybe 55k ..

Have just passed two R8 Coupes on for clients - one manual with 13k 08 08 on clock @ £56k and one Rtronic 8k 08 57 @ £57500

Both clients seemed happy to let the cars go for that..

Dont forget your 57 R8 is about to drop out of warranty.. !

Seems about right to me.

my gf's garage was part of a large group of dealers, I would regularly peruse the national stock list (most manufacturers). which showed purchase price, money spent (touch up/service/etc) and then forecourt price.
The Ferrari dealerships always seemed to have about 10k put ontop of the traded in price by the time it hit the forecourt.

My best pisstake was when looking at a Lexus GS430 from a Main Dealer.

Sticker was 8k. I haggled them down to 7k.

For comparison, I phoned up a dealer only 50 miles away from them and "offered" the same car to them as a trade in. They offered me 2k, and later called back to reduce it down to 1800 pounds while giving me a load of guff about "nobody wants V8's etc ect etc"

I later bought a newer car, with less miles and "Navigator" satnav for 5k from another dealer.

Was looking at a 40k A5 Cab from them as well. I'll just keep the R8, costs a few quid to ins/tax but compared with the depreciation it's nothing :-)

Looks like a good offer to me.

Slightly more miles, but before haggling, 57 plate car at Audi for £57,750.

Doesn't surprise me.

I've been looking lately, admittedly much lower value. Trade in prices and excuses for such low offers are piss takes. Although one dealer admitted that he'd give me a st part-ex and then put it on his lot immediately for a 100% profit.

Fair play for honesty, but I want a good deal thanks.

That one's manual no carbon and 7k more mileage No magnetic ride either

I'm not really bothered, like I say it's no hardship keeping it ;-)

I'm staggered that the sort of person that can afford buy an R8 appears to have no idea about margins, risk, the VAT the dealer would have to pay etc.

Margins and risk???? At 54k with prob 64,995 asking where's the risk? They'd be underwritten at 54K and are making nicely on the A5 anyhow....

It wasn't so long ago when some people were paying massively over list price for the R8. Imagine the depreciation they'll face.

They wouldnt get anywhere near £65k for the car on the deck, more likely £59995 - someone with then walk away with the car at around £57k

Plus they have taken the risk of putting a supercar on their front which could potentially sit there for some time, plus 12month warranty when the car is eventually sold, plus prep etc.. plus they have to make some money.

If you are paying near list for an A5 Cab then you are missing around 8% discount available fairly widely anyway!

But as you have said you can afford to keep it, so i would say do so.

It's not about affording to keep it, it's about can't afford to sell it :-)

In the real world that car will sell for a little under 60k. After prep and costs it will make them about 4k.

That's a pretty modest return on a 54k investment wouldn't you say? The offer is fair.

So don't sell it then.

It's only going to be worth less and less as time goes past so if you need the money, sell sooner rather than later. If the money is that important, sell privately and get a fair bit more.

Dealers have to make money too, as you've said it's a modest return for an investment. The car will likely be serviced and valeted too removing possibly even another 1K too.

Everyone's in business to make a profit, otherwise there's no point!

..and they have to pay VAT on that £4K.
