This morning I have reported an untaxed vehicle parked opposite my parents' house.

Now normally I would not do such a thing, as I would make 101 excuses for the person whose vehicle it is, however, the owner of this particular car decided to dump the car there for the last few months, uses it to make out with some girl (no effort made to hide this, i.e. windows wide open, female on lap, etc.), smoke drugs, eat fast food then proceed to throw the remains into the road.

The car is a chavved up Purple VW Polo (6N). Seems it is uninsured as well whistle.

How long before the car is clamped/towed away/crushed?

From experience less than 48 hours from when I reported it from my last encounter with a long standing / dumped un-taxed vehicle

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear.

Although this was actually the 2nd time I have reported the same vehicle, first time was online and over a week ago. Phoned today hoping that things would move faster if I reported it 'live'.

Hence the topic.

A lot of it comes down to the local police, I had a large police traffic office 50 metres down the road so probably quick to check.

You used to be (or still are) on UK-MKIVs right? I recognise the handle.

Suppose I'll have to leave it to the authorities to deal with now, although I would like to volunteer to tow it down to the crusher myself if I could.

The one and the same Walrus that would be me, don't post as much on there these days as the topics don't interest me as much as they used too.

Be patient they are normally pretty quick to sort it out, how long has it been since the current tax expired as that may have some bearing on how quickly they move it.

Expired on the 30th of June 2010. It's not so much the vehicle, but the vehicle's owner who I would prefer to get clamped and towed away, possibly crushed biggrin.

I feel sorry for the car really, reminds me of that VW advert where the chavved up Golfs are crying.

I reported a similar one back in March. The DVLA site confirmed the tax ran out in February. It was still there untaxed (and confirmed as such) in June. I reported it a number of times.

Its now been taxed and is sitting in the same place. Very odd.

Not at all odd. Standard procedure is to leave a CLE2/6 form on the car - which warns the owner about the fact that it isn't taxed. They are then given a period of a few days to re-tax the car. I think there's a small fine attached too. Everyone is given a chance to re-tax their car. My motorbike was untaxed and un-SORNed for a week or two; it is now SORN but I got a warning through the post. It is stored in a garage so it's hardly some anti-social action on my part.
