Ideal bhp/ton for everyday performance car?

200bhp/ton is well enough for where I live (admittedly the Isle of Wight isn't the Isle of Man)

Too much power is just enough generally speaking.

Though back to reality I find the 190ish BHP/ton of my car to be pretty good, and the 160bhp/ton of the Focus ST I had wasn't bad either.

How about torques per ton?

I've had similarly powered petrol and diesel cars, the petrol engine had 230bhp and 230lbft, the diesel had 220bhp but 350lbft. The diesel 'felt' quicker.

200 is certainly enough that I don't get stuck behind things, but that doesn't stop me wanting more.

Couldn't care less about torque because I have a gearbox.

I'm finding 172bhp / ton is adequate but not particularly quick. Ideally, assuming it could put the power down, I'd like 240.

I've got about 200, having had the car for a month I already want more. It's not quite enough to easily piss all over everything and overtake whenever you feel like it. 250 I think I would be happy with.

Well I said about. It's got 236bhp with inlet manifold, throttle body, us m3 cams and a remap. Hoping to get a little more from m3 manifolds cats and exhaust and a Grumme M replica induction kit with a remap to suit.
I use the word "about" with reckless abandon as I realise that my car weight 1395kg
