Vitara - Hi all,

In the family (Mrs Mud and myself) we have 3 cars, a BMW 330ci, Smart car and the Vitara, pictured which I use for hacking to and from work, tip runs, taking out up Dartmoor for walks etc, chuck your muddy boots in the back etc.

The BMW is our 'nice' car, very little used TBH, and the smart is her car, which I use when at home for the local errandy stuff.

I absolutely love the Vitara, it's been fantastically reliable, goes anywhere and scares the st out of all the faffers and dodderes on the roads, but it does like silly to the gallon, I haven't worked it out but every 2-3 days it'll swallow £20, it's costing me say £6 a day for a 22 mile round trip, it probably doesn't help that I drive it like I stole it, having a scorching 70 BHP and the wind resistance of a small house I know does not help.

So I need a diesel, but being a fussy bugger on a budget of say 1200 notes, what will that buy me ?

I want 3 doors, no estates, no saloons, trouble is for most non-petrolheads this would be easy, but I've always liked the top of the range, or interesting vehicles, so even with a snotter I want the best and most sporty I can get, if possible.

So, currently looking at Pug 306 turbo diesel, not the poverty spec models, the one's from 1997 onwards, phase 2 is it,alloys, leccy kit, also the 206 vans as we use these at work, 50 MPG+, hate Fiesta's well anything Ford, hate Corsa's, Rovers, Citreons, Renault.

I just hate boring cars, wheel trims, family vehicles, no rev counters, no temp gauge 106,5 doors, white cars, mpv's I actually know what I want, whether I'll actually find what I want within 200 miles and in budget is well anyone's guess.

Not sure why I started this thread, probably regret it and be shot down in flames, I apologise now for any spelling or grammatical errors, TXT speak or caps LOCK speak innit.

laugh

From what people's opinions seem to be, 306 isn't such a bad idea if there's a decent one within budget?

Linky
One like that would be on the money I'd imagine.

Golf diesel? Or in the same vein as the Vitara, Fourtrak?

Sure, that's the sort of vehicle, and on the money.
