Whilst PH is mainly 4 wheels biased I appreciate we have 2 wheeled friends as well, so I'd like everyones opinion on my experience this AM at the petrol station

Usual Sunday AM Q's, people not getting into lanes, etc....managed to get so I had 1 car in front of me

Space comes free up ahead and just as the car pulls out, a scooter (Lambretta type) comes from right at the back and slots in the space

I look around mer, and whilst various people are shaking there heads, nobody gets out to have words

So, took it upon myself and walked up and said

"Hi mate, any reason why you havent Q'd? surely you can see the Q behind you?"

Scooter guy: "why havent I Q'd? because I've only got a small tank and it wont take long"

Stunned by the attitude I returned to my car and the car in front of me (behind him) pulled away, so I pulled in

As soon as I get out, I get -

Scooter guy: "see, didn't have to wait did you?"

Me: "Not the point, is it? and it didnt matter if you were fuelling £3 or £30, you Q like the rest of us"

Scooter guy: "If you dont like Q'ing, buy a scooter"

I left it there as it had the potential to get into swearing and general grief if it carried on, but what's the view of both 2 and 4 wheel people on this?

Was he being an arse, or should I have just sat in the car and let him get on with it?

bloke's a prick. I always queued when I had bikes be it a £5 tank of £15 it's still the principle of waiting your turn.

The previous doesn't apply to queues for traffic lights and the like though!

He was an arse.

If there's a queue, you queue. Or go down the road to next one.

I wouldn't even think of doing something like that on my bike simply due to the number of nutters around vs. vulnerability of me and the bike (eg "sorry mate, it just fell over by itself while you were paying" or getting shunted out of the way by Mr/s Angry whose go I just stole)

90% of scooters riders are imbecilic drones that's why. If they are not trying to knock me off my motorbike at traffic lights, they are trying to throw themselves under the wheels of my car.

Generally they wear no protective kit, so after the course of a year their numbers thin out a bit.

When I had my bike I sat in a queue same as everyone else. when we go out on a ride we would share a pump so fill up two maybe three bikes then pay in one hit. Saves taking up three seperate pumps.
Wonder how he would have felt if he had a car and someone did it to him.....

Fair game, IMHO, due to the number of car driving muppets who don't realise you can fill from either side of the car.

You can often be sat in a queue because none of the cars in front want to fill from the 'wrong' side.

Interesting 1st post that appears to disagree with the general consensus (and one formed mainly by bikers, I'm glad to see!)

Cheers all, not just me then!

In the situation you're describing you could just pull up to one of the large number of free pumps.

I'm a dedicated motorcyclist so my tuppence worth is that I would never do such a knob thing as nip in front of someone when the pump became free.

Apart from anything else, if the car has already started moving forward and "doesn't see me" I am the one who ends up on the deck...

I will nip past queueing cars to get to an empty pump if no one seems about to take it though (the "wrong side for my car" scenario already mentioned).

But anyway, the rider was on a scooter, so is nothing more than a two-wheeled car driver anyway... wink

This seems fine to me - I do this in the car even (normally after leaving a little time or attempting to make the opther person aware)

Some road users are courteous, some aren't, regardless of what they are driving / riding. In this instance this scooter rider was being a tt.

nothing wrong with the rider. I've never understood why we really are the only country in europe that loves queuing.

It was very discourteous but nobody had the bks to do anything about it... So you smile and wave at another bell end pushing in and get on with your life, hoping that your courtesy will reap you some benefit, beyond a feeling of doing what you think is right.
