Can anyone point out some glaring obvious things to avoid with this route? uber-route
I have to do this tomorrow, leaving folkestone about Noon, the two points are picks ups of my wife and sister, we are off to bury my grandfather. Granted its a long way and in my Type R is going to be a little tiring, just really want to avoid major road conjestion or a plethora of speed cameras. I have a 530 Go TomTom with traffic cameras, any know problems on this route???/
Any advice gratefully recieved.

Looks good to me, I just drove from west of Newcastle down to south of Cambridge today and the A1 was fine apart from the aforementioned 50 limit section that seems to go on forever....don't forget the average speed cameras on the A14 either.I have to do this tomorrow, leaving folkestone about Noon, the two points are picks ups of my wife and sister, we are off to bury my grandfather. thole. Luckily the football team are awesome.Last time i went to middlesbourgh i went to get a bus into town (no taxies apprently they where all on fire!) and was told that "oh they stop running at 1730, they keep getting shot or robbed you see" .....
I wonder if i can do there and back in 150 litres of fuel...........
Looking at your drop-off points, its not like you have very much choice as far a route goes, is it?
Check list for long m-way journeys:
Check list for long m-way journeys:
- Get some comfy jeans - most current fashion fit doesnt leave room for the twig and berries, a problem after a couple of hours
- some comfy trainers - heeled shoes tip your ankle at funny angles for long periods on steady throttle so thinner soled the better
- pack 2x 1.5ltr bottles of water (or 6 x 500ml) - staying hydrated helps you stay alert and in case of breakdown/massive traffic jam - common on the M25 at the moment.
- 1x Red Bull for moments of real tiredness when youre not near an exit or services - if youre properly tired, sugar/sweets alone wont cut it. Youll need the caffeine shot.
- if you dont already, set your seatback a little more upright and sit so you can reach the top of wheel with the calluses on your palms. Then drive with a straight back. This will avoid mid-journey back-ache.
- Check your oil, water and spare
- Have all your CDs to hand or MP3 player in easy reach
- Charge your bluetooth headset
- Take your in-car phone charger
- Pack a jacket in case of an evening/adverse weather break-down
