Hi guys,

New to the Forum but spend quite a bit of time browsing the classifieds here and other well-known internet sites. I have noticed especially checking Subaru Legacy Spec B's Estates now between the £9-11k mark are well overpriced by up to £1k for the mileage. Therefore, you are losing out before you even buy! Guess you could haggle but you won't have much luck. Found the same with ST Mondeo's too. An even bigger gap in valuations. Anyone else found similar discrepancies, or bothered to look before they bought?

Cheers,

Jon

Jonnjag, he's an expert don't you know? In fact in the morning I shall ring eurotax and cancel my copy of glass's and instead will confer with the oracle himself.

Nice start Jonn,

If a car really is overpriced, then no one will buy it. The dealer will eventually lower the price until it sells.

As already hinted at, its the buyers that determine the correct price.

the greedy dealers of course

why do you think dealerships have glass shop fronts?

It's so they can spot the poor, hapless punter from down the road and gives them enough time to polish the pistol and put the mask on

But aren't ST220s and Legacy Spec B's quite desirable? If everyone is pricing them around the same mark then isn't that what they are worth? The market sets the price...

On another note, my neighbour has a Legacy STi and it's fecking gorgeous. I'd kill for a shot in it, I bet it goes some! It's got an autobox, not sure how common they are on Legacy models but it's an STi, it's probably a bit of an animal!

Ah, thought that might get a few negs. I have to admit there are 1 or 2 bargains out there if you have ready cash(does anyone?)or even a decent part-ex! Today, Octavia VRs Estate, 06, 35k miles, the lovely blue colour, £8995, 2 cars down below that, same car, same 06 Reg, 40k Miles, £9995. Guess which one I've enquired about?
Ok, so which is the right price? Which car is going to get you a better part-ex price on yours? In my humble opinion, some dealers price right(usually means car's an unwanted or hung around too long!) or price high so that when you or I, who'll haggle a deal, turn up, it might drop to its real value.
Of course, Terry and June turn up and see nice car and pay the price. Instant prof!
Don't get me wrong, I know dealers need to make their cut. Just that when these so-called guides(Parker's etc) give you a dealer price(mileage adj.), how often is it accurate?

Christ, even Glass's can't get it right.

The August guide arrived last week and i'm still laughing at it.

Surely all you have noticed, is that there's a 10% variance in the prices?

There is no list price for used cars.
The price offered is not necessarily the price sold at.
The cars are not identical condition or have the same service history etc.
The Dealers' back up/ service etc will not be identical.

You're accusing dealers of being greedy yet it appears that you don't understand their business.
