Why not get a real Ferrari?
Discussion
of course you can't but you could get this:

which i would take over any kitcar

The thing is, I mean some of them- and I stress some - replica cars are actually a very good effort. This for example: http://pistonheads.com/sales/1778215.htm . But more often than not they look awful. This one suffers from a problem most of the Ferrari kits suffer with and that is the side dimensions are all wrong (admittedly amongst other things). The interior would be pretty shoody too, unless it was done from total scratch.
And they seem to cost a small fortune for some reason too. I know effort has gone into them, but when I can get a real Ferrari for less, why bother?!

I'm not ashamed to admit that at first glance that Lambo would fool me. Most of the Ferrari stuff just looks all wrong in terms of proportions though.ETA: And they seem to cost a small fortune for some reason too. There are some replicas I love. You rarely hear anyone on here b
h about Cobras or GT40's, some of which are superb. I also quite like the Hawk Stratos replicas and some of the 356's.But £30k for the OP's link? No chance, I can think of 1000's of better ways to spend that kind of cash.
For me, replicas have to fulfill two criteria:
The replicas that make sense are the Ferrari-based 250 GTOs and such like (even if that is heresy to cut up another 250), the orignal Bentleys converted to Blower spec (again heresy) and the C/D Type Replicas with real Jag bits, the appropriate construction, panel beaten aluminium bodies etc. Also the better Cobras, GT40s, Stratos etc.
The thing that gets me about cars like the Lambo replica above is this: Once you've put that much money and effort into a car, why not create something unique? The good ones are fine cars in their own right and I'd much rather have a Noble or Ultima than something with Noble or Ultima style engineering underneath a copycat body.
- Have to be near indistinguishable from the real thing, aesthetically, aurally and behind the wheel
- Has to be something utterly beyond my means to ever own the original and/or where the originals are so rare that I probably couldn't get one with the funds and where there's nothing remotely similar on the market

Now I know I'm going to get shot for this & I would never buy such a car BUT...
...I can see the appeal for most people.
Now bare with me here for 1 sec, Lets compare it to one of those nice 355's.
Looks - The general public will prefer the mr2/430 just because it's newer (they are wrong btw the 355 is gorgeous).
Driveabilty - The Mr2 is much more modern driving experience which again most people will prefer. More refined, safer with more driver aids & better brakes.
Costs - Mr2 Cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, cheaper to run, cheaper to service....
You can carry on with this list for ever, the only places it really fails for "Joe bloggs" is it doesn't make the noise & it isn't as fast in a straight line.
Personally, I'd have a 355 & a standard mr2 instead, but I'm not normal, I'm a Pistonheader!

Surely a modified MR2 will cost a lot more to insure than a Ferrari? Those types of cars are usually not hard to insure as a second car at all, and you couldnt use a bodykitted MR2 Ferrari replica as your only car really. Costs - Mr2 Cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure
And you can buy a 348 for less than the MR2 in drag.
My problem with it is that MR2s are actually very good and quite handsome looking cars in their own right. A good clean MR2 (especially a turbo) is a car you can be proud of owning in my books anyway.
And the Murci replica that is an exact copy with a 2.slow turbo engine? Well thats not exact is it.

Sorry, utter BS.An MR2 is more refined than a 355? More driver aids?
Bearing in mind we're talking about a 2nd Generation MR2, which came out in 1990.
Can't say that I'm into replicas, but it must be quite satisfying to build it and drive the end result. Reminds me of this thread..

The thing that bugs me about that advert is the whole shameless 'buy it to show off' attitude, as if the only thing anyone could possibly want a desirable car for is to pose in. And, as I've said time and again, what will you say when someone asks you 'is that your Ferrari'? Only two ways to answer - tell a barefaced lie, or admit that you're a shallow-as-a-puddle exhibitionist who wants everyone to look on him in awe and wonder but not talk to him in case he cocks it all up.
It's like going into a nightclub wearing a Daniel Craig facemask.

What about a Cobra rep?
Each to their own.
A cobra rep is completely different, that's taking some scaffold tube and building up a car from scratch, and is quite admirable. Each to their own.
A rep created by taking a half decent car and dressing it up to look like a fully decent car, is not that great an achievement.
- I'm fully expecting the arguement now that all the mechanics of a cobra rep are taken from other cars, so it's the same situation as an MR2/Fezza rep. It's not.
