Leaving at around 8am, and then back again leaving Bath at about 4pm. How much traffic can I expect in both directions?

Thanks smile

Is it going to be that bad to warrant a longer cross-country trek, no doubt using a lot more fuel?

Thanks

It will be extremely busy, and just frustrating. Hopping off onto the M3 > Basingstoke, then A339 > Newbury, then A4 all the way to Bath might be a better option, at least you should be moving.

Fair enough.. If I don't have to worry about the M4 then that's alright, The M25 is often unpredictable in my experience going in that direction, so I'll keep my fingers crossed smile

Edit: I should have said really.. I'll be coming from J11 of the M25 which is 8 miles south of the M4 junction!

You big bunch of pussies. I drive Chepstow > Slough twice a week at peak times and whilst it can get slow around Reading it's never bad enough to warrant a detour. Unless there is a major smash, which is rare.

West bound on the M4 the only bottle necks are usually Jnct 10 and 11, the outside lanes should be clear though.

Once past Reading you'll be very unlucky to hit an issue unless someone is doing 71mph between Swindon and Bath and causes an accident. The camera vans will be out to prevent that though.

hehe Minor detail left out from my OP wink

Anyway yeah I'll just chance the M4. Will leaving any earlier be of any benefit? I'd rather get there early and sit around waiting than sit in traffic mullering my clutch wink

I'd normally go Chobham - Bagshott - Bracknell - M4

Would that route be a nightmare at 8am? Worse than the M25?

I'd do M3 to A303 then up to Bath on the A36? Have done Bagshot to Bath in less than 2 hours that way in the morning peak time.

It's tempting. You really reckon it'll be that much less stressful than going 4 junctions round the M25? smile

This time of year that's a 2 hour journey. I left Newport at 7am this morning and was sat at my desk in Uxbridge for 9.

I have done in the past.

M25 J11
A320 to B386 through Windlesham
A322 to Bracknall
and A329(M) to M4.
