What's it likely to be?
Discussion
So, having had a small trauma on Saturday, I get back to the car depress the clutch and it stays there.
Balls.
Clutch arm appears to be stiff, if you pull the clutch end of the clutch cable you can hear the pedal banging so the cable hasn't snapped.
I've no clue and apparently getting to anything near it is massive expense and it's only a cheap car so I find myself in yet another scrap or save situation - bloody bangernomics.
It's a 205GTi BE3 gearbox.
Any sage knowledge on them? It's almost like the fulcrum point has come off.
Cars, who'd have 'em?

Sounds like a snapped clutch fork.
Whatever it is, it's a gearbox off job, so if the car really is worthless, and it's not a job you can do yourself, might be worth thinking about just binning it.
Well, it was £900 a few months ago, its taxed until October and had a full years MOT when I bought it.Whatever it is, it's a gearbox off job, so if the car really is worthless, and it's not a job you can do yourself, might be worth thinking about just binning it.
One assumes gearbox off is hundreds of pounds?

A competent mechanic with air tools should be able to get a gearbox off in 10 mins maybe 15 with a coffee chucked in so labour should't run into a lot, it just depends on what the problem is, have you tried giving the clutch arm a bit of WD40 and some hammer time? Might help free it a little?

Pffft, if the clutch has failed engaged then he's just bought himself a bangernomics stop start system.... until the starter dies at least

It's a 1.6 convertible.
Yes, I know its gay but it was bought to please someone other than me and it does so very much so I don't care that I look proper bent.

I know someone that can help, but I'm not exactly local to you.

Seriously though i'd have to agree and say it sounds like the fork needs fixing, is it a 1.6 or a 1.9?
