Insurance help please.
Discussion
Right then, i've just had my settlement through for my car and they are offering me 1500 quid, minues my 650 excess!!!
the car has about 70k on the clock, was in very good condition and very well maintained. just had a look on auto trader and there is one there that is IDENTICAL to mine for 2200. how much do you reckon i can get them to increase my payout by if anything? as i personally think 1500 for a car i payed 2800 for with 12 months warranty is just a pisstake!!!
I have just found these three examples.
one
two
three
Two of which are pre-facelifts and mine was a facelift.
whats the best way to go about this? all help welcome and necessary

You will need to haggle with the insurer.
I haven't been through the process so its best to bump this thread in the morning when people who have experience can see it.
General interest question - Can you claim the cost of excess back from the other party (assuming it was a no fault accident).

Tell your insurance company that you want fair market value for the car. Offer them 650 and tell them to find you an identical model with identical history in identical condition that shows their offer is fair and reasonable.
I'd order the papers from the small claims court too and start processing the paperwork.

Reject their offer. Use the examples you have posted to explain why you don't think that their settlement offer will put you in the position you were in before the claim. Ask them to increase their offer to allow you to buy a similar car to the one that was written off.
Do it in writing.

their 'file hander' (money stealer) is phoning me in a short while, so i'll explain everything to him nicely. the higher you value the car the more you pay on your premium, it may only be a small amount but its more. so its cost me more to insure my car as being 2000 than it would have done to insure it at the value of 1500. I paid the extra, i want the extra. or atleast thats my arguement anyway.
Also just had a look at what sort of accord i can buy for 850.
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/HOND...
something tells me thats not equal given it has done DOUBLE the milage mine had and has a casette player not a cd player.
do you really think i should go to small claims if i dont get a fair settlement?

First you would have to complain, once their process has been exhausted and assuming you still feel that they are short changing you complain to the Financial Onbudsman - their response is binding of the insurers (but not yours) if you still think you have received a satisfactory outcome you could take it to the small claims court.Crumple Zon3s said:

Your excess is your loss and you are expected to swallow that cost. The insurance won't pay you market value AFTER deducting your excess in order to put you in the same position as before.
You need to show them what it will cost you to replace like for like, then settle for that value minus your excess.
I am aware that i lose my excess, but still 1500 for the car is not on. as said older similar milage ones are worth 2k, and mine was in pretty damn good condition with only a small scuff on the rear bumper.
ETA: i would be happy if i could walk away with 1200-1300 after excess as that would cover the new car i want (honda civic 1.8VTi-s) and the extra on the insurance. and as 1300 after excess would be 1950, i think thats a fair valuation of the vehicle. looking on certain valuation sites 1500 is the trade value of the car, but the cars value from a dealership (which was where i bought it from) is between 2000 and 2200.

Sounds like you will get a decent value for it then
I read one from an insurance bod in SP&L that insurers tend to start around Parkers trace price and can be haggled up to Parkers private good price.
Reject the offer, they will make a counter offer, etc, keep pushing until you get the value that you want. The annoying thing is this all takes time and you probably don't have a car to use while negotiating. They know that
