I need to get a Dremel type tool. Primarily for the process of removing rivets to fix the broken window regulator on my E36 Coupe.

There seem to be quite alot of variety available. With the proposed job in mind, does anyone have any recommendations?

Is it worth getting the cordless version. As I will mainly be using it for working on car (i.e. outside) it would be nice to not have to mess around with the extension lead.

Also, how does the competition stack up. Dremel seems to be the default choice. Anyone any experience with the B&Q own brand for example?

Many thanks

I believe it's an abbreviation of "For The Win", a mark of approval amongst the young 'uns.

And indeed, mains powered for the win would be my recommendation too.

How-heifer, for removing rivets, you need a drill and not a Dremel.

fk the world actually.

OP, why not just use a drill? Unless the access is poor there is no gain to be had from using a dremel over a proper drill.

I was shocked by the prices of proper Dremels so I got one from Maplin, with loads of attachments, for peanuts. I can't compare to proper Dremel but works ok for me e.g. when I had to grind off the rim around Alfa 147 sump plug to release it. I would go mains personally, especially if non-Dremel. Nothing worse than an under-powered power tool.

All the guides I had read on how to the job reccomended a Dremel over a drill for these rivets. Can't remember why off the top of my head. Quite fancy a Dremel anyway, it will get used for loads of things.

A drill bit is perfect for drilling out "pop" rivets (have a convenient little dent dead centre for the drill!) but if the rivet is domed then a grinding bit ina dremel will be your best friend!

Oh and mains FTW here to!
