Evo X's - how fast??
Discussion
Considering all the petrol heads on here, I'm surprised the Evo X isn't mentioned more, but it seems to be an almost forgotten car from my observations. And true enough they don't seem that common on the roads either.
Anyone know what they are like? HP levels, performance, straight line ability and that sort of thing??
I saw one last night, a slightly barried up white one with twin exhausts each about 5" wide
Sounded better than I would have given it credit for, but thought it would have had a bit more straight line pace, not that it was slow mind!!

Evo X goes from FQ-300(ish bhp) to FQ-400bhp (ish bhp) with 6 speed paddle shift or 5 speed manual on some of the higher powered ones, 15-20mpg is the big reason you don't see that many and the higher power ones are getting on for Nissan GTR price. Very quick off the mark with high threes to sixty up to low fives for the slower ones though the delivery can be a bit peeky.

I haven't driven one so can't comment on the driving experience. However, there are several reasons why they seen to be relatively rare.Anyone know what they are like? HP levels, performance, straight line ability and that sort of thing??

A lot of people on the MLR seem to decry the way they look - and I do agree TBH.
The technology is very different - totally new engine (alloy block) - so the tuning companies are taking a while to offer the same support as they do for the 5-9 Evolutions.
They're a chunk heavier than the E5-9s and thus require more power to be as fast and thus are expensive for what they are.
It's a 4 door saloon car, not great looking, and yet has very high running costs, and purchase price - which is going to limit the market a lot.
Arguably the earlier Evos are more fun to drive - as I said I've not driven one though.

Is there an easy way to tell what FQ it was?? Although this one was modded, don't know how much though. But the twin dustbin sized exhaust, non standard alloys by the look of them, aftermarket rally style mud flaps and a row of fins along the top of the rear window (original FQ400 like).Edited by Crusoe on Tuesday 3rd August 13:02

Doesn't the FQ have a single port sized exhaust?

It def had the fins along the roof.
But the exhaust looked more like this, only with another one on the other side too. Might have been a bit bigger too.

The car seemed to either ride high or was missing some of that rear undertray, you could easily see under the car from behind and see where the exhaust Y pipe was for the twin outlets.
Probably a lesser Evo modded up I suppose. The chavs always aspire to the real deal, and I suppose the undertray and port exhaust are hard to come by (or simply not produced at all) for the after-market mod peddlers. Easier to stick some fins on the roof and a stupidly big exhaust than to get that kind of kit I'd imagine.

I thought the UK cars had twin exits - either side of the number plate.Gassing Station | General Gassing [Archive] | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
