It must be the time of year, they seem to be everywhere but today one got his just deserts.

There is was driving along this residential road, i notice a group of girls on the pavement ahead to my left, approaching from the opposite distance is a moped, as we near the group of girls he looks at them and starts to weave from side to side, showing off i assume, somehow he gets a tank slapper on and promptly faceplants the road, his bike skittling across the road narrowly missing my truck, girls erupt in fits of laughter, i stop and take a look in my mirror expecting the worst only to see him get up and drag his moped away as fast as he can. Idiot was only wearing tracksuit trousers and a t-shirt, not sure what hurt most, his bare arms or his pride! rolleyes

I wish you'd got pics, or a video frown
Far too many of them buzzing around on mopeds with L plates, with no road sense.

Nutters. I flattened one (scooter, not rider) a few years ago when he turned right (and across my path) at a 4 way junction without checking for oncoming traffic.

The trouble is, they treat them like pushbikes. I've often seen them riding on the pavements, etc. They also seem to like perching their helmets above their faces for some reason.

As a young lad of chav age, thinking I looked rather dashing in my pink Lacoste polo shirt and blue Farah trousers, I happened to spy a rather attractive young lady on the footpath, whilst pedalling past on my totty magnate Raleigh 5 speed with cow horn bars.

I attempted to catch her attention by waving and shouting hello only to have any attempts of looking cool dashed as I slammed with some force into the car that had stopped in front of me. The initial image of a tt hitting a stopped car was compounded by the after effects of my bks slamming into the headset which brought me to tears and left me rolling around on the floor gently sobbing to myself.

Thankfully there was no damage to the car, only a buckled front wheel, and a severely dented pride.

My rather roundabout point is that we've all tried showing off in front of girls when we were younger and some of us have come a cropper whilst doing so. Said Chav has my sympathies somewhat. The equipment and the clothes may have changed but the mating rituals remain the same.

40% will realise in the next six months there a st mode of transport and get rid
20% will fall off and die frown
20% will fall off and never get back on
10% will be seized for no insurance/anti-social riding
10% will carry on riding them for the next 5 years and will have a McJob forever!

Usually inexperienced. Most experience they've had is riding their pushbike and 1/2 days riding on the CBT.

Twice in about two weeks I've had run-ins with mopeds. First was whilst filtering to the front of a queue, bike was sat in a lane and decided he wanted to get away from thr lights first. Unfortunately he pulled out when I was almost ontop of him.
I had anticipated him doing that and had the brake covered, so not really a big problem. I did make my feelings clear when I got along side him.

Then I had a propper tt over take me on his RS125 in a 30zone, pull infront of me and immedeately slam on the anchors to turn right. Managed to swerve around him, but still, totally unexpected on both counts.

Saw him at a petrol station a couple of days later and thought about saying something, but worried he'd damage my car to 'teach me a lesson'- he only lives around the corner so.

I see hear a lot of that stuff, especially the extreme yank on the handlebars to attempt a wheelie.

I seem to remember more failed wheelie attempts then getting the front wheel of the ground though.

I do always think that in 3-4 years time, they'll look back and think "why didn't someone tell me that mopeds were so embarrassing?"

Nah there's got to be a significant proportion that upgrade to a proper bike and then carry on their antics at a higher rate of speed

The ones round here love to rag it over a speed bump and try and get the front wheel up. Several times now I've seen it go tits up and either McChav falls flat on his arse with the bike sliding into a tree, or it's not balanced and bike and rider fall over and slide gracefully towards the nearest obstacle.

Although once, several years ago, I was in a mate's car doing about 85 (leptons) on an A-road in Lincolnshire. A moped then flies past in the outer lane, must have been doing at least 95. It looked like one of those Nangkang 125s too, and we're still a bit confused as to exactly what happened.

I'm sure some PHers have fallen off their mopeds, crashed cars doing something silly, had a stern telling off from an "old git" (25) and learnt from these mistakes.

We all learn and grow up, as I'm sure that kid will and one day he'll tell a story of some Chav falling off his Hydroped (Hydrogen Moped) in front of girls. smile

Not all teens are waster chavs.

The correct solution (if you have a DERV) is to allow it to sit up your arse for as long as you can tolerate and when you've had enough, drop a gear and hoof it (when it is safe to do so of course), covering them in a nice big cloud of soot biggrin

I've only had one 'encounter' with a mopeddist but I almost forgive him for it (plus I was driving a company car at the time).

Slow-moving traffic in Liverpool, moped behind me. Ariel Atom comes the opposite way down the road (and this was a matter of months after they'd come out), mopeddist stares at it, forgets to look where he's going, slams into my C4's rear bumper.

Thankfully there was a copper passing who saw everything so he couldn't exactly try and blame me for it.
