London West End to S****horpe on Fri night, best route?

Ok, I've got the unenviable task of getting from the west end up to shorpe leaving 4pm fri afternoon... Can't decide what will be the best route, M1 or A1???? (I'll be on my motorbike)

Would like to hear from those that go that way often(as I hardly ever do)

Not much help I'm afraid, but I love the way the swear-o-meter (what's it called?) won't let you type the name of the place!!!

If you're on your bike surely it doesn't matter? Just check out highways agency website to avoid any long motorworks restricted to 50 (not that average cams will catch you anyway) <cough>

On a motorbike I would think the A1 is the best, most direct route plus you can zip in and out of traffic

A1 is generally more interesting, and now that most of the roundabouts are gone less held up. Give some though to M11 instead of the bottom end of A1, but if you are on a Motorbike, roadworks not as likely to bother you.

A1 every time, however if you don't mind taking slightly longer (and going through a few villages) parts of the A15 (notably between Peterborough & Lincoln) are very entertaining on a bike.

It gets less interesting North of Lincoln as it's a lot straighter, but is still entertaining enough. If I'm not in a hurry then it tends to be the route I'll take once I'm North of Peterborough.

why not stay for the evening, night out in the west end, cheap hotel then early start with empty roads on Saturday morning? Much nicer than fighting through the traffic?
