Everyday I drive to and from work I find myself beeping at other cars drivers because of the stupidity of their actions that cause chaos for other road users, its getting out of hand now it’s nearly once or twice for a 10min 3mile journey everyday.

So how often do you beep at people? Or do I just need to count to 10 and take a deep breath.

I don't think I've ever used the horn on the Elise.

Hardly ever, but then I'm fairly forgiving so unless I'm actually likely to be hit i wont use it.

Used to be once or twice a week, but now I don't bother as the reactions I get from people get more and more aggressive when doing it.

Had to do it the other day though as a van was about to sideswipe me on the A14, hadn't seen me.

He pulled back into his lane, I eased off, he pulled out again when it was adequate. He then rolled down his window, poked an arm out and gave me a wave of thanks/apology.

I thought to myself, why can't all road transactions be this trouble free and good. If you fk up, apologise. If someone else fks up, give them chance to apologise before getting irate. The world would definitely be a happier place. smile

Just work around them. I rarely beep at people. Most wouldn't know why anyway. I only beep if I think they are going to hit me and I can't affect it.

Only if I feel someone has not seen me or is unaware of my presence.

Rarely to signify annoyance and when this happens I expect a suitable hand gesture in return, which inidicates that they got the message smile

Just take a deep breath, sit back a little from the car in front and leave them to it.

Its not worth the extra stress when no doubt the other guy thinks hes in the right in some way anyway.

I might have my hand hovering over the horn in certain situations (e.g. when I'm not sure if the person at a junction I'm approaching has seen me) but in these cases I've also got my foot covering the brake. The problem with the horn is that the intended use of 'I'm here, please don't crash into me' can easily be read as 'I think you're stupid' etc. and so I tend to restrain from using it unless needed. You'd hope that using the horn might suggest to them they're doing something wrong and they'd learn from it but you can never guarantee it.

Very, very rarely. The majority of the time if you have to beep your horn then there wasnt that much of a risk anyway. Sorry to say this but it does sound like you might be a dhead.

It takes a lot for me to beep, such as someone cutting me up without indicating at all or someone being a tool on purpose such as taking up two lanes.

You'll find yourself a lot calmer if you think "I have to drive in a way to make up for other people's bad driving/mistakes because my car is more important than theirs". Then you won't beep as much.

A horns there to warn others of your presence, not to vent anger or greet your mates.

I used the horn about 2 months ago for the 1st time when a woman went to pull out in front of me whilst looking the other way.

Makes no sence to beep someone whos cut you up for example... do you think they give a damn if you're annoyed with them?

Last use of the horn was at the driver who came out in front of me without looking when I was on a roundabout. Had the wrong effect, as the numpty then slammed their brakes on stopping dead on the roundabout in front of me as opposed to accelerating out of the way. I stopped within a couple of feet of the the B pillar on the driver's side of his car. There were 3 passengers in the numpty's car.

Don't use the horn much, apart from to warn other motorists.

Normally shout at them with the windows shut, instead!

They might do next time.

Someone beeped me because I didn't see them in my blind spot when changing lanes on the motorway. Since then I've made double sure to check behind my shoulder when changing lanes.

So it can work.

hahaha absolutely! unlike some drivers who think they will just move out of the way if you race towards them.... they're too stupid to move in time.

First use of the Civic horn was on my holiday in France a week ago....

As I was overtaking on the motorway, some French lass started slowly coming across lanes (changing the cassette on her 205 probably).

She got the horn.

I'm in Dubai - Horn gets used most journeys. People don't pay any attention to their mirrors and rarely indicate so you tend to beep at cars that you think are just about to do something dumb to let them know where you are - most of them.

Someone cut wildly across the Stop of a T-junction as I arrived at it the other day so I gave him an enthusiastic, jolly toot. Except I didn't because the button on my new car is in a different position from the old. Instead my thumb hit the voice command button as I yelled "Tosser!" at the miscreant. My car thought about my spoken command for a second before politely replying "Pardon?" I had to smile to myself.

Maybe some day all cars will have similar anger-diffusing features.
