Peugeot 407 2.0 HDI 136 Estate
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Just new to the site and looking for some opinions on the above vehicle. My good lady and i are selling both our cars and buying a diesel estate between us. We are looking for a reliable, reasonable cost, comfortable set of wheels and thought about the above.
Thoughts please....

I have the 2.2 170 version and it can't really be faulted. Much better than a similar Mondeo I was forced to drive for a week.
The 407 is very comfortable and spacious, eats up long journeys, and is very well specced. My car is a bit thirstier than the 136 but you should get pretty impressive mpg.
Don't let the usual "it's French, buy something German" responses put you off.

I have a brand new one on the drive right now.
It's very.......French!
Good at whafting along the motorway
Don't even think about trying to chuck it about
Crapily laid out switches
Glove box and storage is a complete Joke
luggage cover is a PITA
Nice panoramic glass roof
but I can't thing why anyone should choose one over a Mondeo (which I had before and is better IMHO)

I would disagree - I find it to be very ergonomic, but I'm on my third Peugeot. I couldn't get to grips with the layout in the Mondeo - buttons on the front of the steering wheel, for example (and no speed limiter that I could find). A lot of it is down to what you are used to, but that will change so give it time.
I looked at different and more expensive cars, and still do but I can not think of any reason to move away from the 407, short of wanting a different kind of car altogether. Plus it tows beautifully and carries my spares and tools, which is its main purpose in life.

The Trip computer is compete s
teThe center display is circa 1990 VW
The centre arm rest/console lid is really anoying.
and no f
king bluetooth
How TF can a car manufacturer even consider selling a repmobile with no bluetooth?
Not looking for a new one, looking for a 55 - 08 plate, depending on the pennies.
Very interesting debate, some are used for taxis and by reps up this way so i thought that it cant be that bad a car....
My mate has one a 57 plate and had no end of bother with the electrics...now its gettin a full re wire...(Under Warranty)...suppose there is a bad one somewhere.

There is something about Peugeots that always impresses me, and that is how they all seem to have an "inbuilt" refinement to them, even their basic offerings. Must be a French thing because I've found Renaults are similar in that way.
I'm not a huge French car fan but 2 of my friends have had a diesel and petrol 407 saloon with no problems at all, so I'd certainly recommend them.

Oh dear. Once you get used to it (patience, dear boy) you will use the radio controls and cruise control by touch, using fingertips while holding the wheel naturally. You certainly don't need to see them to operate them. I find them extremely easy to use, intuitive even. The Trip computer is compete s

The trip computer is an evolution of that on the 406 and I've always found it more than adequate. Tap the end of the wiper stalk to scroll through the screens, hold the button in to reset; it gives current consumption and a couple of trips with average speed and mpg. I don't see how that is 's
te'.Do you not have the full colour centre display?
Arm rest - again, once you get used to it and stop hitting the wrong button...
My car has bluetooth. Maybe you bought the wrong one. And judging by the number of folk with those daft plastic things in their ears, a lot of cars don't have bluetooth.
