Oh look, a what car? thread. Sorry.

Sadly, my dog is having to move off to my mother's house and I'll be sad to see her go...
The upside is that I no longer need to be able to carry a dog in the boot and baby stuff in the back seat, the buggy can now go in the boot.
So... I currently drive a 2007 Bravo. A worthy enough thing but it doesn't set my heart on fire. I'll still be looking for something with 4 or 5 doors for ease of access with the baby seat but the car must be fun to drive, I'd be looking over 35 mpg on a long run (lots of trips between Edinburgh and NI) and with a maximum budget of 6 grand.
I suppose the obvious suggestion is an RX8 but the prospect of the cost of ownership of one of those frightens me. Any others?
