I keep getting this Indian call centre calling me up, telling me that I'm due £4000 for a no fault accident that I was involved in a couple of years back.

The actual accident occurred on a garage forecourt, and the bloke that drove into me was moving a show car for the sales operation that also takes place there. When the accident occurred, I was stationary with the handbrake on. The other guy was just looking over the wrong shoulder. At right angles to my car the bloke reversed at less than walking pace into the front of my car. The interference was probably less than an inch, in a sliding manner. Most of the side of the show car scraped across my front bumper. It was such a gentle accident that the other car only came to a halt when the binding forces on my bumper meant he couldn't move any further.

Anyway, the cost of repairs came to about £500 for a new bumper to be sprayed and fitted. The insurance company paid up, and I didn't lose my no-claims bonus.

At the time, I got called by these Indians about it. I asked the insurance company, and they didn't know what I was on about. In the end I told the Indians to bog off and I thought they'd gone away.

Recently they've started up again. Once a week I get a call from them. TBH I think I'd like to accept the £4K just to get rid of them. They say that the money is "reserved" for me. They say I'm entitled to this £4K, and all I have to do is accept it. They tell me it's for compensation, but I'm not injured, and the nature of the accident was such that I wouldn't have been. The only damage was the car which has been fixed free of penalty to me, for a good while now.

They're telling me that the UK government pay them to call me and get me to take this money. WTF!?

Clearly it's not right to take the money.

Is this some sort of scam, and is there any other way I can end these damned calls?

Goood morning madame, this is your bank speaking.... if you could just give us your bank details and the money will be transferred to your account... (Phonejacker for the unaware)

Sounds slightly odd. Can you not just block the number? Or is it multiple numbers?

Sadly not, it's withheld, but that's not unusual for call centres.

The really weird thing is that they do seem to know that I've had an accident. They're not wrong about the date either. Perhaps they're doing it "on spec" to try and get my details.

The thing is that I think they really do know about the accident. The other strange thing that I remember now, is that the other insurer, was that one that was tied up in all that credit default swap stuff back at the time of the northern rock debacle. Given how closely associated the government are with organisations like that the whole thing about the government paying them to do this makes an ounce of sense too.

I think that there is a fund dedicated to my accident. Had it been more serious then I could have had delayed physical problems. That all makes sense, but the money isn't mine. I just want them to bugger off. Most notably because I could use the cash! I don't want to keep getting reminded about it.

These fkers keep calling me and did it again this morning.

Indian Accent: "Hello there, my name is....Simon from Claims Cowboys".
Me: "I'm not interested".
Indian Accent: "You're not interested in what?".
Me: "I've not been mis-sold loan insurance, I don't want a loan, I don't have a credit card, I don't want double glazing and I've not been in an accident resulting in any injury".
Indian Accent: "But our records tell us you were involved in an accident two and a half years ago".
Me: "Firstly I resent you, someone I've never done business with, holding such information on me. Secondly, if your records were any good they'd have told you that was a single vehicle accident resulting from my car aquaplaning on a flooded road. Even if I HAD been injured who would I sue, myself?"
Indain Accent: "Goodbye"

The insane thing is that it's building up and the only ones who can spend it are the banks.

Advise them that the call is being recorded and will be used in a court of law.

That will stop them calling!

I get this from time to time. Don't give them any info, tell them the call is being recorded (as suggested). The money isn't held for you, they have to put the paperwork through to see if you can get extra compo, and as you obviously don't have any injuries, you won't get any extra. This is all due to the "blame/claim" culture.

If you do take the money, can you say I was in the car too? I could do with a few bob.

They ring me twice most days, although mine is a manchester based number, probably because thats where the accident happened.

They do seem to know a lot of the details when I eventually get round to answering the calls.

Insurance companies pass your information onto these scrotes frown. It includes the accident date.

Last year, one of my in-laws had a non-fault crash. A few months after the crash .... a claims company phoned them up because "X Insurance had given us your details" ....
