Spent a good couple of hours on the phone today trying insurance companies to beat my renewal quote. Nobody could even come close, all £200 or more off the mark.

This isn't supposed to happen. Renewal quotes are for lazy people who can't shop around!

Not complaining though cloud9

Has this happened to anyone else? All the threads I read are about how the renewals were extortionate.

My renewal was cheaper than other quotes I had, and made even better when I added the wife, which knocked another £30 off.

My renewal was far cheaper than any quote I could find. ~£500 cheaper IIRC.

My renewal was £500 more than the previous year and £700 more than my best quote elsewhere.

I obviously told them to shove it up their backside.

Same here. Mind, I do have household insurance with them too; hence a good discount.

First year ever it was less than renewal by £30 and its getting very close to being under £200. Not bad for a car with 260bhp smile.

It does happen occasionally! And yes, it is a pleasant surprise in a game where customer retention, even the good, seems to be of little importance or relevance.

Still worth a 2 min call to say you are finding other insurers quite competitve and could they take off 5%-10% to secure the business !

My renewal was about the same as last year, and after doing a 'new' quote with the same company it came out higher. Quotes from other companies were more expensive too.

Elephant are my insurers though, who I know have their detractors.

My frigging renewal was up by 40%, and I found it impossible to better, on a like-for-like basis!

I got them down to "only" a 33% increase in the end.
