help choosing between a civic cdti or astra cdti

I'm a newbie to these forums and am after a high mileage diesel and the 2 that have caught my eye are the astra 1.9 150bhp cdti sri and the civic cdti which I believe is a 2.2 engine.
Can anyone recommend which is better and any problems to look out for with high mileage cars?

With high mileage diesels there is always a risk of a big bill, injectors, fuel pumps turbos, particulate filters and all sorts of other stuff start to wear out and fail.

These are not guaranteed to go wrong though, it could be perfectly fine for years.

Can only speak for the Civic (have a look at my profile for a review) & I'd steer clear of one, especially a high mileage one.

Engine's brilliant & I wouldn't have any concerns about that covering high miles but the rest of the car will probably be shagged if it's owt like mine.

The ride's got worse & worse over time, the suspension clunks, the interior's full of rattles & the paintwork leaves a lot to be desired.

The clutch also appears to be made of paper so I wouldn't expect that to last for long (mine went at 45k motorway miles!).

Don't know what the Astra's like I'm afraid.

My wife own's a Civic and have driven the Astra as a hire car. I would have to provide a different view than the other poster, our Civic (40k miles through) has been excellent, build quality is pretty good, some lower grade plastics away from the dash but way better than the Astra. Huge load space in the rear and clever folding seats make it the largest boot space in it's class, the engine pulls very well and can give 50mpg+ on a run. Suspension can be a little hard but is well refined on the motorway, the 2.2 is very strong and plenty of Accord's going around with stellar milage. Consumables can go a little quicker than expected such as brake pads, ours lasted 27k but I changed front disks and pads myself for less than £100 (EBC Brakes).
