For an old F1 car you need a whole team of people.

This has a starter motor, larger de-tuned engine and is a bit more usable and it's new.

Still $1M though.

So what about buying an old F1 car with no engine, and getting it modified to take something like this Cosworth engine and gearbox? Or are there other bits on F1 cars that need regular rebuilds?

You'd need to be a driving God if you're going to show up with that.

At anything other than the owner events, that would be the most frustrating car to drive on track.

Still at that price, you can probably afford to hire the track on your own.

This is a seemingly relatively popular approach going by the number of old F1 cars for sale with non-original running gear. F1 chassis with a more 'off the shelf' engine. Judd, Cosworth etc. and gearbox to match.

Hate to think what happens if you need to replace anything else though. I can't imagine an offside upper front wishbone for a 1992 Leyton House Ilmor is kept on the shelf at your local Europarts.

wow, that looks like an F1 car!.

Would it not be a pain on a track though? I believe it's quite difficult to get the best out of a car like this.

This is undoubtedly the best trackday car to be going on sale. Far better than Ferrari's offerings which must be driven at certain venues - it will be alot faster than cars like the FXX.

It's not the most useable trackday car. You would have to use it on special events, you couldn't just use it on any normal trackday as it's an open wheeler. I don't think any tracks let open wheel cars out at the same time as covered wheel cars.
