One of my neighbours lovingly scraped the front of my car last week, nothing major but it's be new bumper, light and wing so the bodyshop want it for a week. As it's a "no blame" accident (I was sitting on the sofa at the time and it was witnessed by a policeman!) my insurers will give me (or rather charge the 3rd parties insurers an obscene amount of money) a "hire car of similar type, status and standing" so what do we think will appear to replace an Audi 4.2 V8 S4 Avant? I can't see many hire fleets having anything similar to that. These are the choices that we think may appear in the office, as you can tell some people believe it will be something similar, others think not a chance. I have already said to the insurance company though that it does need to be an estate as the dog comes to work with me everyday.

Someone hit my 05 Z4 and I ended up with a brand new Boxster. On the flip side, ive had a bright yellow Micra before.

Simply don't accept anything "lower" than your current car.

If push comes to shove, PM Anniesdad !?!?

I voted Mondeo, but I really think it'll be a '10 plate diesel VW Passat. In black. Seems to be all my local hire companies have to offer these days!

I went for Mondeo, but I would also expect an Insignia, Passat, Octavia or poverty spec A4

Someone hit the Tamora once and I initially got a 2.5D VW Touran 7 seat bus as it was the closest they had on the grounds of having the biggest engine on their fleet. That was shortly swapped for a MGF when it became available - which at least was in the right category, although with only half an engine.

Sorry if it's going against the flow, but why not just accept the cheapest there is - it's only for a week, and helps to keep the cost down.

Please don't think I'm having a go, but isn't this the sort of thing which helps push up premiums (premia???)?

I have mixed feelings on this, as I'm paying out for insurance I can see your point, but if the OP is driving many miles a week, why should he suffer?

I kind of see your point, however the flip side is that I pay alot of money for a policy on a Group 20 car, part of that policy says that they will provide similar in the event of etc etc, so in effect I am already paying for it by the simple fact that I pay considerably more for my insurance than a Group 1 Micra driver. I therefore think it is reasonable to expect what I am paying for, even if it is "just for a week"

And yes, estimated mileage in the next week will be circa' 1000 miles.
