Do I sell my banger or keep spending......
Discussion
Hi I've been reading these forums for a while and decided to join up today.
Just wanted a bit of advice.
I currently drive a punto and not sure whether to sell up or keep ploughing money into it.
I've held my driving licence for 8 years, and recently I was stupid and got caught on the phone, I can't complain as it was my own stupidity, and to be honest I'm glad I was pulled over rather than crashing.
Anyway I've been getting a few quotes on a few cars as well as my punto with and without my conviction code and my quotes are ridiculous, to the point where I'm thinking confused.com is broken lol
Some insurers are quoting with £3000 excess?!
I've done some quotes on my current car and the premiums have doubled with my conviction code
Now the dilemma for me is do I keep the punto and plough money into it and keep it til it dies as I'll never make the money back, or sell it now, count my losses and get something faster and use the extra money I would have spent on the punto to pay for the increased premiums on the faster car?
I know my insurance is going to be high regardless but I'm willing to cough up, so bearing that in mind if I was to sell and "upgrade" what relatively fast cars are out there that are cheapish to insure, I know fast and cheap don't go hand in hand but just wondering if there were any recommendations.
I'm on a budget of a few grand so I know not a big amount but I'm sure there is something I'd be happy with out there.
See for me personally I can't weigh up whether I should stick with the cheap to run car and polish a turd, or just be done with it and get something more "fun" to drive (though more expensive to run).
Thanks in advance.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Very good choice there, I'll have to look into that.
Shouldn't be too bad on insurance either.....
edit: Just got a few quotes and I'm still being quoted a £3000 excess anyone know why?
Some might say I should go third party anyway but fully comp is actually cheaper but the 3000 grand excess is offputting

You're right an sp30 would add about 100 quid maybe depending on the insurer.
I got caught on the phone though not speeding, so got a cu80.
Something can't be right though as my quotes now have 3000 pound excesses too?!
I can't get on cnfused.com as they seem to be doing maintenance but it was the same with regards to the excess.

£3k excess?...just go TPF&T - in your case, it's the same as FC.
The only thing is third party and third party fire and theft are much more expensive, I just don't get it.What else annoys the hell out of me is I have only 3 points (the phone offence) no previous claims and my quotes are ridiculous.

Cheers I'll take a look now.http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...
Also can I ask if you remember what sort of excesses you were being given, see the quote of a thousand I can live with but the excess is a joke, and I refuse to pay 2 grand for third party.

I'm 27 so age shouldn't be an issue.
edit: I called my insurer this morning to get a few quotes on mx5s, I didn't have a reg so they tried a few various models and the 1.8 would be around 100 pound more, the 1.6 would be around 20 pound more.
Those figures are total i/.e just pay thye extra as I pay my insruance upfront, so not 100 pound a month for example as that would be shocking lol
So that's not too bad.
I'm now not so sure that these online comparison sites necessarily offer the best prices.

Give 'em a call. By the way what is the mileage you have on your policy? I doubt I'll be able to get a classic policy as I'll be doing 10k miles and the car would be my daily driver.
I now have my heart set on an mx5 though
