Cars you'd like but dont exist...

Im in the market for something fast with 4 doors for a flexible budget between £35-£50k. Dont really want anything over a year old, has to be reliable, and dont want something too big. Seems my choices are quite limited to the usual german offerings... M3 Saloon / C63 AMG / S4...

Why dont other manufactureres get into this market???

A few cars I would like to see with a price tag of under £50,000:

A smaller (better looking) version of the Porsche Panamera with 5 seats using Cayman engines.
A saloon based on the Aston V8 Vantage
A baby Maserati Quattroporte
Alfa 159 GTA with a ferrari V8
An 'R' version of the tired Jag X Type (edit: a whole new X type in fact)

I personally think a if Aston Martin were to make a small saloon (3 series / A4 size) but aimed it for around £40-£60,000 with a range of petrol engines from the Jaguar XF they would sell like hot cakes... much the same for a small Porsche saloon.

Until then, my biggest dilemma seems to be which shade of grey to go for...

They kind of did with the Boxster Spyder... but its lack of a roof doesn't give the same appeal as if they were to make a track focused Cayman RS.

A 2 seater Ford Focus RS Coupe...

I would like to see the RX8 engine in the MX-5.

A proper RWD coupe from Japan that is less expensive and less powerful than the 350z, all the coupes died out in the late 90s apart from the S15 200sx but it was never sold here, then when people could afford teh sporty cars again none were available or if they were they were very old.

The FT-86 Subaru/Toyota seems pretty good and i will try to get one if they are a reasonable price.

What about the little Fiat 1.3 Cdti lump? Won't weigh the car down as much and they can go upto 130bhp or so i've heard (With 60+ mpg)

I'd like a good looking, dual clutch transmission, AWD, CO2 under 180, 200bhp+, practical coupe, that's got a bit of something about it. A5 ticks all the boxes except for the first and last bits.

Smaller and not as ugly/dull as a BMW.

More MX-5 size.

When commuting last year in my old 100NX Nissan, I used to think, if it had a VAG 1.9 TDI engine in it, it'd be more powerful, faster and more economical.


In short, I'd like an every day car that is small and easy to park. Is still fun to drive, fast but cost peanuts to run. A 2.2 or 2.5 CRD in an MX-5 with an LSD and 200-220hp would be very nice indeed.
