What sleeper project for 10 - 15k

All these sleeper threads have got me thinking.
What sleeper project would you embark on given the above budget?
At the moment I am thinking of a Volvo 240 in grandad spec beige on steelies with a LS1 + Procharger inside.

Either a stock looking minor with a rover v8 bored out to 4.0

Or

A 105e anglia with a cosworth engine producing about 320bhp, should be more than adequate

Doesn't need an engine swap, that volvo engine can take a surprising amount of boost.

I'd go for a vauxhall omega with an LS6. and diesel badges.

I know that site, but a supercharged LS1 can make 600bhp and be reliable, I am not sure a Volvo lump can make that sort of power and be vaguely reliable.

The omega is also a good idea. The other suggestions are nice but I am looking for something with monster power i.e over 500bhp.

Cool, but Volvo's have been done loads, often with a Ford OHV.

Probably wouldn't need the whole budget, but I think a Morris Minor looking stockish but running a juiced up 2.5 KV6 and suspension/chassis mods seems to appeal.

Also a Ford 100e Pop appeals in a similar manner.

If you still want a V8 how about something smaller and lighter like a Triumph Dolly?

a man after my own heart, though my dream dolly is the same colour scheme and wheels but with the BL touring car body kit and a supercharged k series/ quaife 6 speed box.


to the op - 500bhp+ will likely see you looking at yank crate v8 power. budget for running gear, electrics and fab. costs, what you have left is your budget for your donor.

remember, you can't have cheap, fast, and reliable.

You need to get the old Rover 420 GSi turbo. This looked like the standard 416i but had the turbo motor out of the Rover 220 tomcat so was good for 140mph and a 0-60 in about 7.5s. This is the ultimate sleeper car of all time. Bar none.



The good thing about the Rover 420 GSi turbo was it was always bought by airline pilots and so the registration documents always have the names of Jeremy or Roger on them. Even if they were lady pilots.

You say sleeper? Drive one of these babies and you won't be getting much sleep at all, every night air hostesses will be asking you for lifts home - 2, 3 or even 4 at a time if you can squeeze them into the back seat.

Thanks for the suggestions, another problem is that I am living in Poland so Triumphs etc are rather scarce and you are not allowed to register rhd cars.

if you're in poland the automotive world is your oyster. one of the octane staffers had a rover sd1 restored there (nut & bolt job) for under 5k. that leaves 10k for an ls7 install.

I'd go with a skoda mb1000 with a mid mounted audi 4.2 v8

How about something like a Skoda with a VAG 1.8T, Subaru Imprza tubro H4 or Honda VTEC?

supercharged VTEC would be a nice touch, or turbo'd. K-series/VTEC are not dis-similar...
