Idea for a project - what do you guys think?

I absolutely adore the look of Rover P5 Coupe's...
I love the idea of a large, opulent GT car such as the Jensen Interceptor.
Trouble is, neither of those cars are going to be a realistic modern day proposition.
What's hatching in my mind is thus;
Full body restoration of a P5 Coupe, with subtle changes here and there... DEEP metallic blue with perfect chrome and cream roof. Mahoosive modern yank V8, comfortably north of 5.7 Litres, big strong autobox and the underpinnings from something large that can hustle. Thinking XJR transmission and suspension.
Nice set of subtle wheels, foot deep wilton carpets and upgraded air con with a nice stereo and it could make a VERY nice place to be
Obviously this isn't a project on the cheap, but it's been playing on my mind since the XJR went to the scrapyard in the sky and I miss my gangster wheels

You could just work the existing V8 - give it TVR power, and say a supercharger.
However there was Chevy engined version done by Overfinch, with Range Rover running gear IRRC.

I want it to hustle. Jag underpinnings sound good but I think a yank V8 would sound a lot more in keeping with the character of the car. The strange rover looks like it would fall over on the first roundabout
This would be a fantastic project. Might be worth running a tape over a Chrysler 300C. There are a few threads where the body of one car has been cut of the floor pan and the chosen body off another fixed back on. That would make a cool car. The other way would require a seperate chassis to tie it all together, Wisbeech engineering would be a good palce to start for that.

With the suspension changed your project would be superb.
Contact Richard Sprately in Stourbridge. What he doesn't know about P5's ain't worth knowing and he's done a few of these projects before including a 2 door P5 Coupe and modified several to various specs.
He's also a Jag fan and runs a big finned American Chevy (IIRC)

The chassis on those things is just begging for, (alot), more powar. One of the finest looking cars ever IMO beside the interceptor.
You should pop over to the Readers Rides section of the Retro-Rides forum. Granted there's a lot of VW scene stuff, rat look, 'Bozo' and stretched tyres going on, but in between all that there's a healthy dose of original stuff akin to what you're talking about. Might give you a bit of inspiration.

Who are Wisbeech engineering?
They are a company over in Wisbech Cambs (sorry too many Es) who have produced some of the top hot rods in the country. Their cars are regarded highly. Also check out the thread on "Redvictor 3" the body guy who has produce the steel work is a skilled man and also John webster who has done the chassis work is highly regarded for his design and workWho are Wisbeech engineering?
