Honda NSX... saw the first pre-facelift one of my life today outside of Gran Turismo. Holy fking Christ, it looked absolutely gorgeous

Very similar to the one in that picture. I have to say I do think it's instantly become my favourite looking car ever... always thought the ones without the pop up lights looked a bit bland, and presumed that the ones with would just look dated. But everything about it looks 'right'. Perfectly proportioned. My life will not be complete until there's one of them in it Sounded the dogs too.


From reading around, it sounds like they're bloody good as cars as well. Is the only reason they're so rare really because of the badge snobbery?

I heard or read a few years back that Honda had a load of these still sat about unregistered because no one would buy them.

I have probably seen 3 or 4 out on the road.

no wonder. billed as a supercar but IMO its no quicker than a 4wd family turbo box of the same era. i like but but they are held in far too high a regard possibly because of the senna link and his death.

It's not about the flat-out speed, its the handling, feedback, chassis, brakes. They were too expensive compared to the other more obvious choices when new, but that doesn't make 'em a bad car. I'd love one.

a lotus exige S has supercar traits. impressive 0-60 and epic handling but it is not a supercar. yet with the nsx the word honda's supercar ,japanese supercar is draped all over it...

dont get me wrong i love the car i think its brilliant but a supercar it is not.

Interesting... would you have considered the then current Ferrari 348 as a supercar? That wouldn't have seen which way an NSX went on the twisties.

And here's a funny thing - when I had the Gallardo, everyone considered it a 'supercar' - but I struggled on the road against my mate's Caterham, and on the track he would have destroyed me. So perhaps there is (or at least there was) more about 'supercars' than outright pace - presence and image no doubt play a part.

The NSX had presence, if not image methinks.

They're a nice looking car but I wouldn't say it's 'right'. Then again, they are rarely bought because of the way they look I'd imagine.

At the 1997 launch some people thought there was "too much NSX" in the styling of these,

Thing is , it has stopped depreciating so that means you can have a brilliant handling car , that won't brake down , won't cost the earth to run and will not loose you anymoney in depreciation .

What more do you want ?

I totally agree with the NSX, maybe it's because of the Senna thing, but more likely as it was a bit of a 'poster' car for me growing up. They are fairly pricey for a decent one considering their outright pace, but I think it I imagine it would be a pretty nice compromise in terms of being special, being reliable, and driveable. Not that I have ever driven or owned one...

the NSX is definately a car that every petrol-head should own or at least drive. i've had the pleasure of having a passenger ride in one and it is EPIC.

The thing is, for 25k you could have an Aston DB7...

I think that's where the NSX falls down (and fell down) - nicer cars for similar or less money.

I'm not really sure the db7 is a good comparison. It's a gt, and a handsome one at that but it's not going to compete with an nsx as a driving tool. Would have said the 993 and 348 are still it's closest rivals just as they were in the early days.

But they`re still getting good money for a reason. Generally, poor cars will not retain good money. I`d have one over a DB7 in an instant.

Going back to a NSX. Its a car that people cannot deal with due to the HONDA badge. If it had been a ferrari they would have gone nuts.

But i could never own a TARGA !! it looks wrong

No, I should have been more specific, they are a nicer car to me, not similar nor a direct comparison, BUT I'd rather have a DB7 than an NSX any day of the week.....

.....never been a fan of the NSX......IMO fugly as hell......and from what I remember from various road tests it is a pretty boring drive.
